Staying at VWL next week and planning to use Disney Transportation. But I can get a car rental thru Costco for $150/week. My concerns are trying to make rope drop, busy crowds, and getting back and forth for ADRs at resort restaurants. So... do we rent the car or have faith in Disney Transportation? :confused3

$150 for a week is a pretty good price. I think a lot of people on here will tell you that for that price, get the car.

We try to alternate between renting a car and then a trip without one. Disney transportation is a nice way to save money on a trip, but it does leave to at the mercy of all things Disney on your trip.

If your not planning of leaving property, I would pass on the car.

Costco rents cars!!!:confused3 Since when??

They don't rent cars, but they offer discounts (all the time) and deals (sometimes) through Costco Travel.

At first I thought $150 wasn't great and was going to urge you to check out all the codes and coupons found on mousesavers...but then I remember it's Spring Break-time. So it probably IS a really good deal.

We like having a car, so we'd get it!

I would RENT! In Feb and mind you it was not busy, we decided to see how long it would take to get back to VWL from Epcot. DH took the rental car back to VWL and I took the bus. Needless to say DH waited 35 minutes for me to arrive at VWL via the bus system! So if you have a 7 day stay and ride the bus to and from one park you could spend a total of 4 hours of your vacation just on using Disney transportation. And since you are going during Spring break the waits could be longer!

At $150 for the week, I would suggest getting the rental car, too. You will get to Epcot, HS and AK much faster using a rental car rather than Disney transportation. Disney buses make sense for MK, since you get dropped off at the entrance, although you will be able to take the boats as well.

I have found that Costo Travel on-line frequently has the best pricing on car rentals.

I am curious which rental company that price came up for and what location you will be renting from (MCO, CCC, Dolphin, other). When we were there last month, we picked up at the Alamo Dolphin location, which was really convenient, since we were staying at BWV. I suspect there is better pricing for off-site locations, but I have not checked that out.

Have a great trip!!

If you can afford the $150, then get the car. We always rent a car. Getting to theme parks on Disney transportation is doable but getting to resorts or DTD can take way too much vacation time. Save your vacation time for fun and rent the car!

When we stayed at VWL in Nov. 2010 the buses were awful. It took us forever to get everywhere. We allotted an hour and a half to get to our breakfast ADR at Boma and were 15 minutes late due to the buses. I know they are hit or miss, but this was a definite MISS. If you can rent a car for a good price, I suggest doing it.

Have a wonderful vacation! :goodvibes

Last summer, instead of renting, we ended up using a taxi to get us around. It was going to be $200 for the 5 days and we figured it out that it ended up being cheaper this way.

We did it to make ADR's at Magic Kingdom (we were at BWV), then to move from BWV to BLT, and one morning from BLT to AK. Walked out 20 minutes before rope drop, and was there in time just as they were letting people in to the turnstiles.

We used the bus to get back since we were not in a rush, but over the course of those few times, it ended up being a lot cheaper than what my car rental would have been.

Have a great time!!!

I'd vote for the car if you want to make rope drops. Aside from DHS, it's been years since we've seen a rope drop, so we make do with Disney transport. Of course, we stay at BWV, so Epcot and DHS are walking distance for us.

We too are car renters. There is nothing better than having a rental if you are dining at other resorts. Every now and then we take a bus, esp. to MK, and sometimes it's not so bad, but sometimes it reminds me why we rent a car. We generally stay at BWV or BCV, so only need the rental for AK and MK, but we also go to the outlets, Universal and the grocery store (a couple of times).

Another vote for car rental! I love the freedom of having the car and getting to the parks much faster!
