Last minute opt out of thrill rides?

I love the design in of the Tower of Terror as you queue up to go on the ride. I know my Dad would like it, too, but he can't actually ride the ride due to back issues. Does the TofT have an "escape route" from which you can exit before you actually board the ride? Is there a list somewhere of this option for all the WDW thrill rides and if they are easy to use for folks with some mobility issues ? I'm looking for ways Dad can enjoy at least some of the experience with us, rather than waiting outside while we ride. Thanks!

All WDW attractions have a place to exit for those that decide not to ride. At ToT, there is an actual elevator that takes you down to the main exit where guests can see their pictures from the attraction.

I am not sure but I know there is one as I bet a lot of people get in and then decide they do not want to ride it.

I've used the ToT "chicken exit" many a time. That ride is just too scary for me but I don't want to stand outside while friends wait on line, plus I love the queue. Just tell a CM that he doesn't want to ride and they'll be able to direct him. All attractions have some way to exit, even if it's not clearly marked. Thrill rides will have a clear "last chance to exit" marking most of the time. If there is no marked exit, ask a cm.

Thanks for the information although I am a bit confused. Does this mean I enter the ride vehicle and exit it on the other side of the vehicle or is there a chicken exit before I load into the coaster?

No, you don't enter the vehicle. At the end of the queue you basically turn right towards the vehicle. Instead of going right you go straight ahead through a door which drops you right into the unloading area.

or you tell the CM the one that tells you what row to go to that you do not want to ride and they will show you where to go, you can do this for any ride.
