We haven't posted in some time, but we wanted to share our story. It helped us recover some of the value that we thought we lost with our DVC membership.
We had taken a trip in December, Sunday thru Friday, staying at VWL. It was a wonderful time with another couple, and we were glad to have them along. The couple had a 3 year old daughter, who unfortunately was a handful at times. We still enjoyed ourselves, but it wasn't the 100% relaxing trip we are used to.
We flew home late friday night, arriving around midnight. We were on vacation for three weeks and had plans for a one night trip the following Monday. We were heading to Myrtle Beach for the night to see Dolly Parton's Dixieland Stampede show.
After a "long" WDW trip the previous week and a late flight Friday, we gave the Monday trip a long thought. We flew out Monday morning around 7am. The flight from Atlantic City to Myrtle Beach is about an hour. As we were preparing for the initial decent the pilot announced that there was fog and we would be circling the airport. After nearly an hour he announced we couldn't land and would be returning to Atlantic City.
We returned to AC and de-planed. We sat around the terminal for a few minutes and decided that if the flight didn't resume in 30 minutes we would just forget the whole thing. The reservations we made could be cancelled until 3pm (Marriott & Dollar). After 10 minutes the gate agent announced that the flight would not leave until mid-afternoon. We decided to go home. As we gathered our carry-on's we heard a second boarding call for Orlando... we just smiled at each other.
We returned to the Myrtle Beach gate and asked the gate agent if there was any way we could get on the Orlando flight. The women said she thought so and began processing the tickets. She looked at our Myrtle Beach reservation and asked if we wanted the same return, the next day. We said yes, she chuckled and asked "You want to fly to Orlando for the night?". As the agent was completing the request, my wife was on her cell with member services. By now the Orlando flight was having a final boarding call, the gate agent finished the ticketing, and we were heading down the jetway onto the Orlando flight. As we stepped onto the plane my wife completed the 1 night reservation at the BWV and had ME set up. It was at that moment that I really felt like there was an added value to our membership. The castmember couldn't have been more helpful.
We arrived at the resort by mid-afternoon and enjoyed the pool, EPCOT and the Osbourne Family Christmas Lights. We then spent the entire next day wandering the parks and enjoying a dinner before flying home on the late flight again. What an absolutely wonderful time for just the two of us, it helped us recharge our Disney batteries which had drained a little the week before.
It was just incredible to have the ability to make a reservation for an arrival within 2-3 hours. We couldn't say enough about the gate agent for Spirit Airlines and the Member Sevices castmember as well.
