I was just wondering if it is possible to get drastically discounted rates at mod or deluxe resorts by waiting until the last minute to book? We really don't care where we stay (originally had planned for an all-star and all are still available when we plan to go in mid-december :earsgirl: ). Is it best to just call the resorts individually and request a reduced rate? Has anyone tried this? What is a reasonable price to expect to get at a mod? at a deluxe?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

Usually the best rates are about 90 days out or so, if a discount is released.

The best way to get a discount is to book for the time period you want, and hope a discount comes out. If it does, call as early as you find out about it and hope there are rooms available for the discounted rate at the resort you booked, or change resort if necessary.

Rarely, people will get pin codes that are really good deals. These are also well in advance of stay.

The closest I've seen to stay for a discount is about a month out. This is because a discount is usually release for a two to three month period, and sometimes the discount period will start about a month from the release date.

The best discount released this year was probably the free dining if your family was staying at a value resort. (yes, it's over)

Never seen a last minute deal.

Waiting until the last minute will more than likely get you rack rate.

You might try Expedia. Sometimes they will discount the rooms they have purchased from Disney to get rid of them. I know I have gotten some good deals for the Disneyland Resort hotels in California before, not sure if good deals can also be found for WDW. Its worth a try!

It determines what you call last minute and also what time of year you are booking. My husband and I have gone down to Disney in January every year for the past five years, and have never booked more then 3 months out (just booked AP rate for Pop $49 last week!), we usually wait to see what discounts come out. I have NEVER paid rack rate at Disney, and have stayed on property ten times so far total. But again its also about being flexible with your schedule.

Disney doesn't discount their rooms because they aren't full at the time or to fill the resort up say for the weekend. They do offer other discounts throughout the year at various resorts but are usually done long before...so no waiting til the last minute for a better rate...sorry
