We will be driving into the WORLD in about 17 days. We have an ADR booked for the Plaza in the late afternoon on the day we arrive....if we should be running late and cannot make it in time for this reservation, do we lose our dining credits for that meal (we are on the deluxe dining plan)?

Technically, yes. You should end up losing them by the letter of the DDP agreement. However, if you get a pretty cool CM on the Dining reservations line you may be alright. ;)

No, your credits are only charged when you're charged for the meal. Even if you noshow at CRT/HDDR/etc, it'll charge the CC they have on file and not your dining credits.

It is good etiquette to cancel as soon as you know you're not going to make it.

Oh wow. Sorry cdgrill. I have always been told (even by a Dining CM once) that the credits used to reserve will be removed if the reservation is not met. My mistake.

I just found out something else.... The restaurant does not know if you are using DDP credits or not to pay for the meal. So they would not know to deduct them. Duh. I should have thought of that!! I feel stupid now. Again, sorry.

So if we cancel as soon as we know we cannot make it, then no harm....no dining credits lost and no money charged to our credit card?

We have accidentally missed reservations a few times and nothing happened. It's not really a specific saved table anyway. You are just placed in line for the next available for your party size. Now keep in mind those we missed were not those you have to reserve with a credit card. Those do have to be cancelled ahead something like 48 hrs.

Thanks for getting me straight on this too. Seriously. I always thought you would lose the credit. But I guess they have no clue whether you are using DDP credits for the meal or not. This is nice to know now. Last trip we were pretty anxious about making an ADR time that we had for 50's Prime Time. Now I know that I don't have to kill us getting there if something happens. :)

No. As long as it's not an ADR that requires prepayment or credit card guarantee, you don't have to give any notice. They have no shows all the time. Some people ritually book multiple reservations without intending on keeping them.

The Plaza should be perfectly fine, and you'll likely be able to change it to a later time if you want.

Restaurants can't remove dining credits from your account if you don't have an account yet, and you don't even have a dining credit account until after you have checked in. Even then they can't remove dining credits from your account unless they've swiped your KTTW to get access to it.

If you don't show up for a regular dining reservation, nothing happens.

If you don't show up for a reservation for which you have given a credit card guarantee they will charge the no-show fee per person to the credit card.

I believe if you don't show up for CRT or a dinner show you will be charged the full monetary value of the reservation on your credit card - not dining credits, as they will not have access to your dining account to deduct credits. This is why they have you leave a credit card number if, when you book, you say you will be using dining credits to pay.

Sort of (~95% of the time, yes)...

If you entered a CC number in when you made the reservation (this would be for Hoop Dee Doo Revue, Spirit of Aloha luau, Mickey's Backyard BBQ, Cinderella's Royal Table, California Grill, or Princess Storybook Dining at Akershus), there are specific deadlines.

In the case of the first four above (HDDR - CRT), your CC will be charged the full amount of the meal/show if you don't cancel within 48 hours (I believe, double check the timing). This is true even for partial parties, if little Susie decides she wants to stay at the room (and you let her), you'll be charged for her place as well. Without a dining plan applied at the time of booking, full payment is required to make these reservations.

Akershus and CG above require CC holds. This is similar to the above except you are never charged anything during booking, and instead of being charged full price, you are only charged a nominal fee for each person (usually $10 or $15 I think). This also still holds true for partial parties though.

For any other reservation, if you don't show up, nothing happens. DDP credits are never touched without you presenting your KTTW card. (Except for the "Check out bug" where leftover credits erroneously disappear after checking out/check out time)

Has the partial party happened to you? Each time we have gone to CRT somebody is our party has decided not to attend and we've never been charged for them.

There've been a couple of reports on the board that I remember about parties being charged the no-show fee for guests who didn't show up. These were at Akershus. So based on the reports, it can't be said that a party will never be charged for absent guests.
