We'll be checking out of OKW by 11 and need to head to the airport at 3. It's just me and my teen daughter, any fun lunch suggestions? We don't want a big budget character meal, but it doesn't have to be quick service. We've loved whispering canyon and saana in the past, so we're tempted to go back but also want to try something new. Maybe somewhere that has stuff to explore or activities or a second location for dessert to fill our time. We wouldn't mind riding the monorail or skyliner (or both) as part of the experience since we won't get to do that otherwise on this trip. Is Olivia's a must-do? All of our other meals will be in a park or breakfast in our room. I thought of beaches & cream, but it seems better for a dessert than a lunch.

Our last trip on our last day we went to chef art smith homecoming at Disney springs, checked our bags, had brunch then came back after strolling around Disney Springs then headed home.

Don’t know how old your DD is but maybe give CBS a try if it’s not too far. Actually I don’t see an age limit on the restaurant when I think on it.

I would recommend heading to Disney Springs for Polite Pig. Pretty nice bbq restaurant with a lot of choices of bbq meats, sides and salads. They also have desserts like their sweet potato spice cake or their key lime pie. If you want a separate dessert spot, I would check out Swirls on the Water near Rainforest Cafe. They serve nice Dole Whips in a variety of flavors (not just pineapple). Note that you do have to use a separate rideshare or a Minnie Van since Disney Transport doesn’t let you lug your bags on their buses.

I believe you can leave your luggage with guest services until you are ready to head back.

Olivia's breakfast was really yummy.
I would second Disney Springs. Earl of Sandwich is my favorite and then a treat like ice cream or dole whip or cookies.

Our favorite checkout day meal is a late breakfast ADR at Boma in AKL - Jambo House. We can wander the lobby and look at the many African art and cultural exhibits, not to mention sitting at an overlook (there are several) to watch the animals on the savanna.

I second Wailulu. My daughter and I had a lovely lunch there and nice area to hang around. You can then walk over to Polynesian and grab a dole whip before you leave.

We love Grand Floridian Cafe! Big menu, good service, beautiful location and restaurant, great brunch items, and afterwards you can wander around inside and out. Usually easy to get a res, though you may have to wait after you check in at restaurant . Take the bus to MK, then boat launch to GF. If time runs short you can always Uber/Lyft back to OKW afterwards. Happy eating!

We usually do Disney Springs on the last day for lunch or Olivia's for breakfast. We have yet to stay at OKW but have eaten at Olivia's many times...

Just a thought....if you are taking Disney transportation to and from lunch and/or Mears to get to the airport, allow enough time for getting to and from both places.

Enjoy!

I'm concerned Disney Springs will just feel hot in August. I'm not a shopper and I've always been unimpressed with disney springs and downtown disney on all our trips. I haven't been to springs since 2015, but I can't imagine anything has changed to make me like it anymore?

My daughter likes exploring resorts but we've never stayed at any of the monorail resorts before so I'm leaning toward eating over there. Wailulu looks cool but it doesn't seem like they have reservations, is that correct? My family is from hawaii and we'll be on oahu the month prior, so I'm a little concerned the food will pale in comparison.

I'm leaning toward Grand Floridian Cafe after looking at their menu and poly for dessert. This gives a chance to ride the monorail too. :scratchin

Jperiod, if your family is from Hawaii and you will be there prior to your Disney trip, definitely do not eat at Wailulu, lol. Their smashburger is good but the rest of the menu will definitely not live up to the culinary profile. Not to say it's not good, just Disney-fied and created for the masses. And you are correct, that it does not take reservations.
I think there are great restaurants in Disney Springs, but I don't like the heat either, and it is indeed hot in the day.
I hope you have a wonderful time! :)

I don’t understand the heat complaints about Disney Springs. You don’t have to eat outdoors, and walking to a restaurant is going to require less time in the heat than walking around the theme parks all trip long.

Personally I would not be schlepping across property to eat at another resort on departure day when the goal is to be at the airport by 3. Especially not a monorail resort. Factoring in transportation time there and back, and the time it takes to actually have the meal, is cutting it a bit close to me. I would be too stressed out about time to enjoy myself. And all to eat at restaurants that quite frankly aren’t as good as the lineup right next door to OKW at DS. Just does not make sense to me.

OP, 2015 was ten years ago. A slew of excellent restaurants have opened at DS since the last time you were there. I don’t get staying at OKW and not taking advantage of that. Especially if the knock against it is you don’t really care for shopping—tbh, that’s all you’re going to be able to do at another resort with the time constraints, you won’t really have time for the activities.
