I'm thinking about having this done, but I really don't have a clue how to go about picking out a dr. Do I start with my eye dr? Is this something that most/many eye drs do or only speciaists in this procedure? What questions do I ask? Does anyone have a good website to read about this? I know that I can't cut corners on price, which I'm fine with. That's about the extent of my knowledge. At least I admit when I don't know much! :)

I haven't had it done yet, but would like to. My eye doctor recommended TLC Laser Eye Center. It's the group that Tiger Woods used...not that that really has anything to do with anything.

My eye doctor actually gave me a bunch of questions I should ask when interviewing doctors, but of course I don't remember any of them. I know it's important to get someone who has done A LOT of the surgeries...but that's kind of a no-brainer. I wouldn't want the guy who's on his first day on the job!

I would ask your physician if he were to have it done, who would he go to. Questions that you will want to ask should begin with; how many procedures do you do per year and what has been your success rate and complication rate.
Be sure that you are familiar with the complications and the frequency with which they occur. Ask how if will affect your vision when you approach the age where you may need reading glasses, etc. Ask what the latest techniques are as well.

Thanks for the suggestions! I googled and found this, which had some good suggestions. http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/conline/pubs/health/lasik.htm There's a lot to think about.

I don't yet need reading glasses, but it's only a matter of time since I currently take my regular glasses off to read easier. Once my reading correction worsens a little I will need reasing glasses, but it hasn't changed in the last couple of years.

While it might cost more, my regular eye doc is an opthalmologist. After several years of being her patient, she was the one who also did my LASIK. She knew my history and I felt extremely comfortable knowing the person slicing my eyeballs was a person I could trust. :thumbsup2
