Laser Eye Surgery

Anybody had it? My friend is having hers on Friday 13th!!! I am seriously comtemplating it - only so that I can see when I go on the coasters!

Does anyone have any experience etc of it and it's results?

My nan had it only about 2.5 months ago.She thought it was brilliant,she had drops put in her eyes and had to wait an hour for it too take effect(to help with the pain),she said there was no pain whilst they were doing it.They talk to you all the way thru the aprrox 20min procedure.She had it patched+bandaged+came home.She had too remove the bandaging that evening,and was given drops to put in her eye 3 times a day for i think 10 days.It was red+watered for a couple of days,but since then she has been so happy with it.If you have any other questions,i will ask my nan+post back on here for you.(my nan is actually flying now on her way too Ireland-so may be late tonight or tomorrow when i can get back to you as i will be speaking to her some time tonight).x.

I had it done about 8yrs ago my only regret was that i hadn't had it done sooner, i had both eyes done at the same time with ultralase in birmingham

I had it done because i hated wearing glasses, ive been short sighted since i was 5yrs old

I had no problems with aftercare at all and you are kept a close eye on for the first few months. i remember having a few days off work but a weekend would be sufficiant recovery time. they give you glasses to wear for a while ( clear glass) just to protect the eye and you have to waer a mask at night to stop you rubbing them in your sleep.

The eyes feel a bit sore immediatly after but the next day my vision was near perfect

Hi, had mine done 3 months ago with optical express. I was really really short sighted and wore glasses all the time. I had wavefront intralase -Lasik done which means they make the corneal flap with the laser rather then a manual cut (sounds worse then it is)! I have had follow up appoinments at 24 hours, 1 week,1 month and 3 months. Antibiotic drops 4 times a day and anti- inflammatory drops 6 times a day for the first week. No eye make up for at least a week and no swimming for at least 2 weeks but thats it. It really is amazing!

I have looked into it as my eyesight is terrible. but I am so worried about any type of surgery and my prescription keeps getting worse so I can't have it done until it stops anyway.

Same as me. I'd love to have it done but you have to have a stable prescription for 2 years at least. And im a complete coward when it comes to anything to do with my eyes lol

I had in done in 1997 and it's the best thing I've ever done

My original prescription was about -6.5 in both eyes so couldn't see a thing without my glasses.
Now I can see fine - although it's the little things that make the biggest difference. Being able to see the alarm clock in the morning without reaching for glasses, when I took the kids swimming I could actually see and identify them in a pool full of kids, being able to buy cheap sunglasses

Only side effect I get is a slight halo effect in one eye at night if I look at bright lights, although unless I think about it it's not noticeable.

I had mine done at Leicester Royal Informary when they had a private eye clinic (closed now I think). I had one eye done at once about a few months apart. I then had regular checkups at the hospital for a few months afterwards.

DH had it done with Optimax in Central London when it wasn't that widely available and was expense (around £2000) and painful, we didn't live together at the time and I remember he had to lay in a dark room for two days, it was a different method back then - I'm trying to remember what year it was, I'm guessing 1995. He had each eye done six months apart and had to wear one contact lens in that time
He says it's the best thing he has ever done, he hated wearing glasses and the inconvenience of lenses back then was a pain (and he's vain ).
I can't remember what his prescription was but it wasn't too bad - back then they couldn't correct really poor eyesight - one thing is that he is Diabetic and his eyes will probably deteriorate again so he sees it as buying a bit of time.
My friend had it done about three years ago and she was back to work the next day.

The cost hasn't improved. My friend was quoted at about £4000 for both her eyes to be done. That is the procedure, prescriptions & following consultations. That is with Ultralase (sp?). She wants it done as she has to wear glasses all the time & being a PT & swimming instructor is not practical.

My DH had it done about 2 years ago and his only regret was not getting it done sooner. He said it was slightly uncomfortable but didn't hurt...kind of like when you have a filling at the dentist you feel them putting pressure on your jaw, but obviously it's your eye.

You have to have quite a few check ups afterwards and a consultation beforehand. His eyesite was really bad and he hated wearing glasses but could only wear contact lenses for a few hours per day as they made his eyes dry and tired. His eyesight is fantastic now...better than mine and i've never worn glasses!

Same as most here, should have had it done sooner. I went to Optical Express in Newcastle and had one done. I've now got one eye for distance and one for reading. Sounds strange but when you rely on one for near or far the other one learns to follow, so I've never worn my glasses since.

The operation was totally painless, and you could actually see the membrane being peeled back

They gave me a couple of valium to take home and I slept through until about ten the next morning. When I woke up I could see the clock without squinting!! The next few days it was maddeningly itchy but you wont believe the difference it makes to your life. I would willingly have paid ten times what I did to get the same result.

Go for it!!!

I forgot to say, the coasters aren't where you see the difference, it's going in and out of dark rides and shows and having to swap sunglasses for prescription glasses. I could go on for hours about how good it is!

i`am unable to have it done due to having outher complications.have had outher eye surgery and was home by dinner time.
Most eye ops done under local anisetic,where your given drops to numb and dilate the eye,with laser it folows the eye round if you move me had the eye cut to remove the lens,wasnt painfull at all,laser would be a lot less painfull and you would see the benifit straight away.hope all go`s well whatever you decide

I really want to have laser surgery. I am fed up wearing glasses or contacts. I am short sighted but only about -1.75 in one eye and -2.00 in the other. My boyfriend had his done about 5 years ago and says it's one of the best things he's ever done. He was -9.5 in both eyes and can now see perfectly! The only thing he notices is the halo effect round lights sometimes, but that doesn't cause any problems.

I just need to pluck up the courage to have it done now

My friend has recently had her done & when I spoke to her she is glad she has had it done but she has dry eye so she has to see the specialist every 3 days to check the progress as she had a slight problem after where the burriness wasn't going away.

Hi

I had laser eye surgery 8 weeks ago tomorrow and it's absolutely brilliant. The operation was fine - completely painless but i couldn't open my eyes without it hurting for about 4 hours afterwards. My vision was a bit hazy for a couple of days but I went back to work on the monday and could see perfectly. I've had regular checkups and my vision is better than 20/20. My prescription before was -6 in each eye so I was warned I may have to have it done again (which they don't charge you for) as my prescription was border line for the best results but it's absolutely fantastic.

I love waking up each morning and not struggling to find my glasses - I would recommend it to anyone even if it was £3200 . My DH is paying for it for my 30th though
