What is the best way to get from Vegas to Disney Land? Is the trip flat or will there be some mountain areas? I am scared of heights.

There is only one freeway to take, I-15, with several mountain passes. Maybe 50 miles of the drive is "flat"

I would add that there are technically mountain passes, none of them are the beuatiful/interesting/scary types... I find it to be one of the most boring drives we do (Las Vegas to Barstow, anyways :rolleyes1)

We do the drive every month or two, as we live in Vegas and try to go to DL that often. If we limit stops with the kiddos, it takes about 4 hours.

I live in Utah. The 'mountains' between Las Vegas and California are laughable to me ;) They're nothing to look at and nothing to fear, promise!! The worst part about the trip is the nothingness to look at for most of it.

Don't do the drive on a Sunday or holiday weekend Monday. The traffic can be unbelievable. Traffic jams in the middle of the desert with nothing around. Hard to understand but it happens regularly.

I am scared of heights.

As you drop into LA you go down a long pass. Sometimes you can see a long way down, however it's a multilane road so you can go over to the other lanes if you don't like driving by the edge.

I enjoy the drive's scenery quite a bit, because I have what people call an open mind. The Mojave does not look like the view from my kitchen window so I enjoy it quite a bit because it's very different.

The drive takes roughly 4 hours and there is only a few places to stop between LV and LA. Do be careful about the traffic as Hydroguy noted above and avoid getting to LA late afternoon and evening.

As an alternative many people fly, Southwest airlines. It doesn't save much if any time, but on occasion it's close price wise if you have to rent a car.

We make the drive from Utah and I also don't consider it any sort of scary mountain driving, and I am scared of mountain driving! You will do great!

The drive is pretty easy compared to the Trek through Utah and Colorado we do on our way there. The only real bad down hill portion is just south of Victorville, CA, but if you avoid the left land you will be fine.

Traffic can be pretty rough as you get down in the LA Area, I would recommend using some sort of GPS with traffic service, such as Google or Apple offer, just so you can take the better route. We have literally taken 3 routes on our last 3 drives and avoided some crazy traffic. The specific part I am talking about is the last western part, as you depart the I-15 and head toward Disneyland. We have taken the CA60, CA210 and the I-10 west to the CA57, each connect and lead to the same road eventually.

We are doing the same in June. We got cheap tickets from home direct to Vegas through Allegiant. I figured the 4 hr drive wouldn't be too bad.

there is one area i can think of that feels very high. after victorville you hit the mountain pass and if you are in the more left lanes it is easy to notice how high you are if you look towards the left. so if you stay in the more right lanes through that part it is no big deal.

there are a few other places where you will notice a difference in elevation but it does not really feel like you are that high.

also it is not just one highway, you get off the 15 and go to the 60 then the 57 to ball road.

that is the way we go, and we go almost once a month. depending on if you stop and the length of it, it will take you 4 to 4.5 hrs

I used to live in Anaheim and would drive out to Vegas as a day trip all the time. I flew to Vegas once in my life, I actually enjoy driving it better. As most people said above there aren't any REAL mountains you encounter much, other than the San Bernardino range coming out of LA. That's the Cajon Pass and as they said above, that is probably the highest you will be from looking out the window of your car. The rest of the drive is fine.

I've done the drive in 3 1/2 hrs many times. Obviously with little traffic and doing it non stop. My choice of route usually is I-15 straight to the 91 west. If going to Disney you could simply get off at Harbor Blvd, go left and you'll hit Dland in a mile or two. Again, this is dependent on when you will be driving, time of day and what day of the week.

I too find the scenery rather boring and don't think much of it. But the first time I took my wife with me (born in England, raised in New Zealand) she was quite fascinated. It was landscape she hadn't really seen before and she liked it. Guess sometimes you can take it for granted. :-) Anyway, good luck on your trip.

I completely agree with Anaheim boy. 15 to the 91 west. The 91 westbound is horrible Mon-Fri from 5:00 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. (stay away during these hours).

Also the Cajon Pass is the only area that seems elevated. Stay away from the left lanes, if height bothers you. Also, cars race down this stretch of the freeway. If your not going at least 80 mph in the left lane, you're going to be tailgated.

We are doing this! - $34 seats to LAX though!

Flying seems really cheap and quick. This is becoming a big possibility. Any recommendation on how to get from airport to DL?:cloud9:

Supershuttle. Add this into the cost and time as well.

This intrigues me. I wonder if it'd be cost effective to NOT rent a car from Utah..but instead drive our car to las vegas and then fly to California from Las Vegas. HmMMmm

In your case I doubt it. The cost of parking you car in LV, a shuttle and taxi may be more than the gas to drive to LA from LV. Plus you would need a lot of tickets.

While some people spout how they get these cheap tickets, they are just like Southwest, tricking people into thinking it's a great deal. You need return airfare too and to pay the taxes.

Another thing to consider is the time driving to DL from LV. Time on road 3.5-4 hours. With stopping 4-4.5 hours.

Flying, 20 minutes to the airport. 15 for parking if not using a cab or shuttle. 2 hours of checking in, security and waiting. 1 hour in the air. 20 to pick up bags, and 20 to get to the hotel. 3.65 to 4.25 hours

Time wise they are really comparable, pricewise they are not.
