I know that they've said his girlfriend is not a suspect, but I find it too coincidental that she left the country prior to this happening and they can't track her down. And with the money being sent out of the country, I really do believe she's connected somehow.

A part of me agrees with you and does think it is a strange coincidence. Another part of me thinks (and it seems from the way it was carried out) that the shooter meticulously planned and staged this whole event. It could be as simple as he knew once the shooting spree was done and he killed himself and the authorities descended his assets would be frozen, etc. Perhaps he wanted her to have some money to live on. Who knows?

4th amendment protects your room from warrantless searches as well, to include hotel staff going beyond normal housekeeping and maintenance

4th amendment would protect you from prosecution by the government, yes? A hotel could search a room and kick someone out for trespassing I believe.

"My company has metal detectors and devices at every entrance of the building for employees and guests that are non-visible to the public. We have done extraordinary things to make that sure we protect our employees and our guests at the hotel."

So now we're to believe that all these metal detectors that aren't getting set off by all the various metals that are carried around by many would get set off by guns. Sorry, I have a hard time believing that.

The question is, will this be Americas Dunblane? For those of you who don't know, Dunblane was a mass culling in the UK that made the Union say, enough is enough - no more handguns, no more high powered rifles and no more guns in general.

No. I wish it would be, but no. If Americans lawmakers couldn't get enough gumption to do anything after the deaths of 20 CHILDREN they will certainly not do anything over 59 dead and 500+ injured country and western fans.

I sincerely hope I'm wrong.

I made the assumption that this could be possible earlier in the thread and was nearly crucified since the police said that they have ruled her out as a suspect.

Here are some facts that may or may not be related:
Girlfriend was from Philippines.
Shooter visited Philippines at least once before (Fox News posted a photo).
ISIS has a strong presence in Philippines.
Shooter wired money to an account in the Philippines.

BUT, FBI says they have found no connection to ISIS (I'm assuming by searching hard drives). However, it sounds like this guy was fairly intelligent and perhaps knew not to make contact with ISIS via the internet for fear of being caught. I realize I'm reaching with the ISIS connection, but my brain cannot comprehend WHY someone would do this with no motive?!

If the twenty young children at Newtown wasn't enough to change things, I don't know what will be. None of the past incidents were enough to change things. People will send thoughts and prayers, the NRA will funnel enough money to squash any bills, and we will hold our breath for the next mass shooting, at which point we will throw our hands up and shout "why does this keep happening?" while doing nothing to change it.

It would not surprise me one bit if there were "missed signals". Hindsight is 20/20. Knowing what people know now makes it easy to say "you should have seen this then".

If you read up on "mass murder" cases like this, there are a range of missed signals, running from the obvious and overt to the subtle and miniscule. Sandy Hook is an example of the former, where Nancy Lanza was to a large degree oblivious to the plethora of storm clouds over her son Adam.

On the other end of the spectrum are the December 2015 San Bernardino Inland Regional Center shootings by married couple Syed Rizwan Farook and Tashfeen Malik. Neither of them has been identified as risks on any security radar (despite the fact they were active in some radical Islamic web forums) and their family and friends did not detect their fanaticism or that certain items they were warehousing were weapons. It may turn out that Las Vegas killer Paddock will have a similar "some signals that unfortunately were too subtle to be picked up" profile.

Yes you are reaching. These mass shootings were going on by crazed and or evil Americans long before ISIS.

There is no emergency, there is no military service for citizens, it's a bunch of individuals with guns. Totally at odds.

No. 20 kindergartners wasn't enough. Neither will this. Instead, we are currently debating the legalization of silencers, because it would be better apparently if we couldn't hear the shots. Think how many lives were saved because people recognized the sound of gun fire. It would have been exponentially worse with a silencer, which the NRA apparently thinks is a-ok. And, Congress is poised to go right along.

Yeah I know that's true. I guess I just want a reason, not that that will make it any better. But there must have been a reason, right?

It's now over 36 hours since the shooting but I haven't seen any reports of any ban being passed.

I did not say in my post that the wiring of the money has anything to do with ISIS and I have not seen anything that makes me think this is the case

However, I do wonder if the girlfriend may have known something was going down. I just gave another plausible alternative as to why he would wiring money to the Philippines which is where the girlfriend was.

I realize that. I meant that I made the statement about the girlfriend knowing something, and I was crucified for it.
