Rooms in the travel industry are generally set up for an occupancy of 4. Suites and timeshare properties would be your major exceptions. But the policy, of course, may vary from hotel to hotel.
Wyndham Grand Desert is a timeshare located about a block from the strip. They have 2 bedroom suites that are beautiful. Best to rent from an owner as it is more reasonable and you don't have to do a tour. They have a Harrah's shuttle but no casino on site.
Sure some Vegas rooms sleep 5. I am sure there are cheaper alternatives but we were given an upgrade to a 2 bedroomed suite at the Venetian a few years ago, one bedroom had a king bed and the other bedroom had 2 queen beds so that slept 6 people. There were only 2 of us in this room (great for us!!)
A Bella suite at the Venetian would give you 2 Queen beds and a comfortable couch to sleep on. The Bella suites are 700 square feet. Lots of room to spread out, even with 5. Look for deals on the internet.

You cannot book online with 2 adults and 3 children in a Bella Suite; it says it exceeds the maximum occupancy for the suite. Perhaps you could call the hotels directly and find out your options.
I do agree though that the Venetian or Palazzo rooms are bigger than any of the other regular hotel rooms on the strip. I've stayed at almost every hotel. The smallest were at NY NY. Other than Venetian/Palazzo, the largest rooms have been at the Bellagio and Caesars.
Las Vegas is really hurting so I would think you could find a condo/2 bedroom suite somewhere for a reasonable price.
I agree, the love seat is comfy enough for sleeping (I'm a tad over five feet and like to sleep curled up with my head raised anyway) but the OP needs to confirm with any hotel that they'll accept five people in one room. Las Vegas hotel very frequently charge extra for third/fourth(/more if occupancy permits) guests.

I did not know that. Well, maybe one of the kids could be a last minute addition to the trip . When they check you in, they don't ask to see the entire party. I see that her DS is 2. He can't take up much space. LOL
Sorry, but there's a chance Las Vegas hotels even charge extra for two-year-olds. It's best to be up front when making hotel reservations, to avoid surprises on both ends.

If they notice, which I highly doubt, the charge can be added at the end of the trip. I don't think the Venetian will throw the family out into the streets, especially since they are hurting for business.
