Larger Safe at Guest Services on Ship?

Friend asking if there is a larger safe at guest services on the Magic where they could store something too large to fit in their cabin safe! I'm guessing no, but I wondered if anyone knew anything differently.

I'm intrigued too. Given that the stateroom safes are big enough to fit a laptop, I can't think of what someone might drag onto a cruise ship that would be bigger than the safe.

Long story short... her mom (older) is meeting them at the port and cruising with them. The mom is actually moving to live with my friend after a divorce, so she will have her most important things packed in her car at the port. She has a small lockbox with important papers and documents. I don't have a good idea of how big this is but they're not wanting to unload it all and stick it in the cabin safe I suppose.

If it is a small lock box, bring it with them and put in the cabin? It's locked and no one can open it so no theft opportunity from dcl staff members?

That seems kind of logical, but they're afraid someone will just walk off with the whole box.

Respectfully, if the box just has documents in it, and not a LARGE amount of cash, your friends may need to deal with a paranoia issue before cruising.
The ship obviously has a safe to store money for passengers cashing checks, crew wages and the like, but I would think they would not take something that is deemed SO valuable that the owner would not place the contents in their room safe except unless the contents, not the physical container does not fit.
And even if they did, they would need to see inside this box to check its contents.

Why not enquire about a local bank instead?

I basically agree with you, and I don't think asking DCL to store it is the right answer! I just thought I'd see if anyone had a different answer or idea!

She's meeting the family (my friend) who is taking her on the cruise kind of as a consolation/celebration that the divorce is final and then mom is driving her car in caravan back to live with my friend. She doesn't live in Orlando (further south) and so everything important to her will be in her car when they cruise. If I understand correctly, it's just that there may be so many papers that it won't fit in the safe (legal size documents won't really fit) and they don't want them removed from the lockbox!

Oh, then no unfortunately I wouldn't think they would be able to store something like that.
That would be something they need to plan ahead I would think, like maybe the mom driving up a day earlier and storing all her important stuff in the lockbox at her daughters house maybe?

Honestly, I don't think there'd be any problem with just shoving the lockbox under the bed during her cruise. Or put the locked lockbox in a locking suitcase under the bed so it's even more concealed. If that makes her too nervous, how about just shipping the entire thing to her new address before she leaves? Or leaving it with her lawyer to ship to her once she returns from her cruise?
