Does anyone here have a large family and own DVC? We have 5 children ages 11, 9, 7, 5, and 8 month and are currently in the ROFR wait period for an AVK resale contract. We are new to DVC but not new to Disney. One reason we decided to purchase DVC is because we are a family of 7 and will alway need a 2 bedroom villa. Once new baby is 3 we will have officially outgrown all on property resorts besides the Camp sites and the villas. Getting 2 rooms just didn't sound appealing to us singe we could get a large 2 bedroom fully equipped villa.

My question for those who have a larger family how do you stay? Do you always do a 2 bedroom villa? Have you ever done 2 stuidos? Also how hard is it to get a 2 bedroom during the 7 month booking window to other resorts besides AKV?

Thanks

Lindsay

Just wanted to say we have very similar ages!! 11, 9, twin 7 year olds, and a 15 month old :) I'm not much help though, we just bought DVC but only rented points for a 2 bedroom previously.

Good luck with ROFR!

How many points did you buy? Our contract is 160 points. We pln on going every other year with 320 points. We also want to add on 25-50 points direct!

https://www.disboards.com/threads/h...been-working-out.3549166/page-2#post-56615436 hs a good summary. Essentially, it depends on season. During Fall Frenzy, expect to book and stay at your home resort, and book before 7 months. BCV is difficult year-round for many dates, even in low demand season. BWV is getting more difficult, and it's worth noting that all 2BR at BWV are part of lock-offs so are very reliant on studio demand for availability. BLT Lake View is often possible during low demand season. Saratoga and OKW are generally the most available resorts across all unit types at 7 months.

Unless you are military, you'll probably want to buy some points direct so you can get savings on tickets. It might not matter if you don't go twice in a year. But we buy annual passes, go at the beginning of the year, then at the end of the year (almost a full year apart). We are only a family of 5, but now that our youngest is 6, we stay in either 2 bedrooms or the 1 bedrooms at BLT or AKV. If you go from mid-Jan through Aug, your chances are better at getting a 2 bedroom, but fall season can be really hard to get anything other than home resort and SSR, maybe OKW. We did get a 2 bedroom at Beach Club this year for Christmas, but we booked right at 7 months.

We have 190 at GF :-) Our goal was basically to have enough to do a big trip next year with my parents (so 2 bedroom + studio all on our points) with banking and borrowing. We think we may go again in 2019 to see the new stuff, and I wouldn't be surprised if we end up adding on around that time so we can go more often. We originally thought we'd only go every other year but now that we're members I could easily see it becoming an obsession! LOL.

You will need to have one adult (18+) on the reservation for each studio if you go with the double studio reservation route. Also, you won't have a kitchen or laundry in the studio's. So I would go with the 2 bedroom over the double studio, just for the laundry, plus you get a living room (once the beds are put away).

We are a family of 6 and only stay in 2 bedrooms. We bought DVC so we can stay in bigger rooms. We love the extra space. We also save space in our luggage by doing laundry during the trip. No need to pack clothes for every day. We have found we don't cook much but love having a full sized fridge for food for breakfast and snacks.

We are a family of four. Kids are both turning 16. Bought in 2006. We always get a two bedroom so kids have their own space. We cook some depending on the trip. We are at Bay Lake Tower now. Haven't cooked, but the fridge is full of leftovers. Dinner tonight! We also love being able to take breaks and relax in the villa. We got eight days at Bay Lake at the seven month window .

Having a separate room to let a toddler nap without disturbances will make for a much happier vacation for everyone.

Other than possibly at Poly, I don't think 2 studios are very workable for several years in your situation. I'd plan on a 2 BR but you might be able to get the value 2 BR if you plan and reserve 11 months out for close to the same cost.
