I know this has probably been asked before but I am going to ask it again because I am know as queen naive by my DH.

I want to take our laptop with us on our trip in Sept but my DH is so afraid that it is going to be taken from our room. I told him that a lot of my DIS family have taken their laptops and other electronics and nothing has happen to them.

My question to all is what do you do with you laptop and other electronics when you are out at the parks? I need to assure my husband that the computer will be safe while we are not in our room. I want to be able to send updates and pictures while I am there.

Thank you ahead of time!

We simply notified the front desk we had a laptop in our room... took a couple of pictures of it in the room.. and then left it on the table each day.

We also had paid for the internet access.. so we left it connected to the internet. That would indicate what time it was 'unplugged' if someone took it from the room.

We figured that was enough 'safety measures'.

Nothing bad happened... We stayed Pop Century.

As with everything, your mileage may vary.

We have taken a laptop the last two trips and they fit in the Pop Century safes with room for other small items. We only used it to download images each day.

We just left my laptop on the table in the room(CSR) and never had any problem.

Leaving your laptop in the room is fine, but just leaving it on the table is not smart..(I am not sure what telling the front desk does for you, most hotels limit liablity for all electronics unless you give them to the front desk to lock up!)

Somewhere on EVERY lap top I have ever seen is a small slot where you can insert a cable lock. I wrap the "lock" around a major piece of furniture, lock the thing up and keep going. (Mine is too big to fit in the safe.) Cable locks run around $20 at your office supply place. Small investment to protect your laptop.

I've taken my laptop the last 3-4 times that we've gone to Disney. I have actually left mine out on the nightstand or on the table - which, in retrospect, probably is not very smart. However, I've never had a problem. I would recommend storing it out of sight when you are leaving your room for the day.

:thanks: everyone. I appreciate all your feedback. I am having my husband read this thread and hopefully he will change his mind. I am keeping my fingers crossed.

I was going to say the exact same. Mine fits in the POP safe, and every day after the parks I would take it out to download our daily pictures. We did leave a video camera bag in the room most days (value is about the same as that of our laptop), as we were too lazy to film much, and had no problems.

A $20 cable lock is a laptops best friend. Everyone that I know of that travels for business has one.

If a laptop is lost most insurance companies will ask what you did to prevent the theft. If you say you left it out on a table or desk you will have a hard time being reimbursed.

I put my laptop and my camcorder when not carrying it to the park in the entertainment center/dresser when we left the room. I left it in the bag and just put it on the shelf then closed the door where the shelf was. It was fine. Never bothered.

I agree about the cable lock being the best bet; that is what we do -cable it to the base of the table or something big. Otherwise I would lock it in a suitcase or hide it with some other bulky stuff you have or in drawer under clothes or something other than leaving it out in plain site. Many sizes will fit in the in-room safes too. We've never had any issues, but better to be safety minded.

Put it in the safe. If the safe isn't big enough, I'd just put it in a suitcase with dirty clothes or something.
