I was just curious what people use to backup their pics that they take down at Disney? I was wondering if most peoplebring laptops or use some other device to backup their pictures or do you just leave them on the memory cards and then download them at home? trying to decide if I need to take my laptop down with me :confused3

We took the laptop and my hubby burned my pics (raw files) to DVD - then when we got home I began the task of processing all of it.

I bring the laptop. I take way too many pictures to keep them on the card

I bought a Photobank portable hard drive. I didn't want to lug the laptop just for pictures.

We bring one of the laptops. I empty memory cards, and we load the video onto it.

We brought our laptop and downloaded pics to it - it was helpful to review if we got good shots of certain things too - so we could go retake those if necessary.

I also bring the laptop just so we can check E-mail, web surf, DIS, etc.

two things I never travel without, my camera and my laptop...

The laptop with a portable hard drive so I can put them in two places - on the laptop's hard drive and the portable drive. I can also use my Ipod for photo backup and I have another protable drive with a viewer if I don't want to take my laptop. Since I just have the 12 inch MacBook, I tend to take the laptop unless I really have to cut down on space.

I have had memory cards fail so I never rely on keeping them there anymore.

Ever since I got a laptop, I bring it everytime. Nothing is great like going through the days pics sitting in my Disney resort room, listening to Disney TV and drinking out of my Disney mug. Ahhhh, I'm a Disney Girl in a Disney World!!!! :surfweb:

We always take our Zen (see link below). It's a media player (movies, music, radio, etc.) which contains a 30GB hard drive. We just insert the card into the reader and plop them on there. Once we review they all made it, we clear off the SD/CF card(s) and they are ready for the next day. Takes only minutes and we don't have to lug around a 4lb PC. One of the best purchases we've made.

I bring my laptop, but would gladly take a smaller portable storage device if it had a lcd preview screen that supports RAW. For me, tht would mean Canon RAW and Sigma RAW. So far, I don't know of any that do both.

I always bring my laptop. Just beware, if you back your photos onto you laptop and delete them from the memory card you can lose them. If your laptop is lost or HD dies your photos are gone. I always burn them to DVDs and back them up on my laptop.

I remember seeing a device that will allow you to download a SD card directly to your video ipod but was wondering if anyone has heard of this or if they have any knowledge of it have a 30gig video ipod and think if this is a viable option may be a good backup for my photos

Apple makes an adapter that allows you to transfer photos - you need a USB cable to attach to it so you can either connect your camera to it or a card reader. Check the Apple web site. Forget the price.

I also here that these are slooooooooooowwwwwwwwwww.

I'd always bring a laptop. Unfortunately, the one I own is fairly old and my current work one doesn't have a DVD burner, so I'm going to bring along the DVD burner out of my desktop PC as well as a USB cord that will allow it to work externally.

When it comes to storing photos, remember that laptop hard drives are easily the least reliable place to store your photos... ideally you'll want redundant hard drives (one internal and one external) to store two copies of your photos on. My plan is to burn two duplicate DVDs of all the raw files. I've seen way too many hard drives fail to trust me vacation photos to them!

If I absolutely could not bring along a laptop, I'd probably grab two of those cheap devices that dump data from a memory card directly to a laptop hard hard drive, and put all my photos on both of them. It's all about redundancy!

Laptop AND external Hard Drive. The laptops HD isn't very big, but the external is 200GB. I'll actually start processing RAW files at night and put them on both the laptop & external HD.

I also wont reformat the SD cards until I need them. I currently have 4 2GB cards & 4 1GB cards. I may end up with 2 more 2GB cards before the next trip just to be, as Groucho says, redundant.
