whats your main computer ?

Laptop, but I usually keep it on the desk :confused3

lap dance:banana: Oh, sorry..misread. Laptop:)

My laptop which is normally in my lap while I sit in the recliner. I do use my desktop quite a bit though.:)

Custom built desktop. Since I know how to build them, it's a lot cheaper for me to go that route.

I do have a netbook for any travel I need to do. It's more then enough for what I need.

Desktop...with the printer, scanner, and good speakers. Laptops are all networked, but the desktop is the workhorse.

My main computer is a desk top. I needed a good gaming computer and was told by a computer repairman that gaming is pretty hard on laptops.

I do have a laptop, but mostly use it for vacations, when we're camping, etc.

Desktop. Home-Built for a fraction of the cost (around 1/3 I would say.)

Needed the power for gaming. Tried a laptop too (for light stuff) found it heavy, warm and with a uselessly short battery life.

Thinking about adding an iPad for mobility instead. We'll see.

We have three computers in our house, and each has a very distinct purpose/use so it's not cut and dry.

For gaming (partner) it the desktop in the office, for surfing/school work it's my notebook computer, for movies/TV its our Home Theatre PC (HTPC).

For the one used the most, probably the HTPC as we have all 450 of our movies stored on it so they can be played anywhere in our home, it holds all of our files (and is connected to our cloud back-up), acts as our DVR, NetFlix controller and TV tuner to watch what little regular TV we do.

I think you'll find the iPad pretty useless for a notebook replacement, we actually just got rid of our iPad because it really doesn't provide the same web environment as a computer.

I would look into some of the new ultrabooks, like the new Samsung Series 9(I actually just bought one). They are extremely light weight (less than 3 lbs), have SSD drives (great for performance, boot and quiet run), if they are equipped with Intel processors run pretty cool (I wonder if your "warm" machine was an AMD, they are notorious for running "hot") and last a long time on a battery charge (6 - 7 hours).

My desktop is the best computer in the house but the laptops get most of the use.

laptop
I use it in the same spot 90% of the time,
in my recliner, in front of the TV !

Depends on what I am doing. Laptops for each person in the house and one for my sewing room. Desktop for the workhorse in the house. Then add in 2 HP mini's with Verizon mobile and 2 Touchpads for travel. Then 2 HP Desktops at our office, all networked with the laptops and mini's and touchpads so it's just plug, play and print.
Add in the Blackberry's.
Too many for two people I guess. Cannot wait to get my HP scanning wand to add to the Neat.

Main computer is desktop. Has all files, photos, etc. External hard drive for automatic constant backup. Scanner. Printer. Etc.

Laptop has only files & photos I need constantly synced to it using Windows Live Mesh. Mainly used outside the home however & travel.

Throw an iPad2 into the mix too. Used more at home than laptop is lately.
And iPhone.
Both of those mainly access cloud data & emails.

And that's all just mine. ROFL. Not getting into how many laptops DH has from work here.
