Hi everyone. My laptop is down to 2% disk space available on C drive. I don't want to have to go buy another laptop, don't want that budget buster...so, this is budget related. I love my laptop and would like to keep all the contents of my Ipod on it. So, my question is this:

I have an external drive that I put all my photos on, can I put Itunes on it too, without losing my Itunes library? If I right click on the Itunes icon on the desktop I can send to this external drive. If I do that will all contents of the library, along with all commands to make it work properly all transfer over? Also, how would it transfer new podcasts or music from the library to the Ipod, thru a laptop port...and how?

If I'm not thinking this through correctly, please advise me so. If there is a better way to accomplish, please feel free to let me know that too. I just don't want to erase my Ipod, as would be necessary to put on another computer.

Thanks all.

As long as you have an external drive just keep it plugged into your laptop. As far as the computer is concerned you will have two hard drives.

Another option would be to get a much larger hard drive that will fit in your laptop. You can go to a support location where they will do a complete image of your current hard drive, including the operating system and registry, install the new hard drive, and then transfer everything back to the new drive.

I have all my big itunes files on my external...like tv shows and such...as long as you keep your external plugged in you won't have a problem

I agree with the advice for an external. I know Best Buy has a 500Gigabyte drive available for about $99.

We have lots of music and data in our family, and between the four of us, have 8 external drives ranging in size from 500 gigs to 1.5 terabytes.

Also, not to hyjack but,
I have a 1 tyrabyte, portable that goes from the lap top to the Desktop to back up. It is not kept plugged into anything.

Do you mean if I use it for dd Itunes on the desk top, that I can't unplug it and bring it to the laptop to use it also?

So far I added a larger hard drive to the desk top and left the Itunes on the old drive. I would like to back them up some place.

On the topic of Itunes, my dd 8 gb Itouch is under warrenty going back. SHe want to back up whats on it and erase it before she sends it of as likely she will get a rebuilt one back, not that one.

But, is not sure it can be done? Would they do it for a cost at the service center in Allentown, or would they just mail it in as we would do?
She has a new 32 mb.
It saved room to keep them on her old one.

As long as I-tunes is receiving the files from your external I suppose you could use it for both your laptop and desktop...you just wouldn't be able to sync your i-pod without the external hooked up to whichever computer you would be using at that time

I have all our itunes stuff on an external hard drive. You don't have to leave it plugged in all the time it just has to be plugged in when you open up itunes so it can find your stuff.

As to the poster with the itouch just do a back up in itunes and then when she gets the new itouch sync that back up to the new one. We did this when I passed my 1st gen iphone to my DD and I got the 3GS. Easy peasy and had no issues.

Dang it is stuck, gets so far and not move, I think it is the contact issue. That is why it is not charging too. If you want to use it, need to hold a certain way, and not touch the cord.
May not work due to that. I will try again though.
Thank you.
