The place with the most lanyards that I found was the pin place at Downtown Disney. They had all the ones that I saw in the parks plus a couple of others that were not there. That was a good place to buy the lanyard and starter set of pins if you wanted to start trading!
Its an actual store directly in front of Once Upon a Toy. It looks kind of like an open hut, but it has almost every pin available in the parks and then many many more.
There is a pin section in World of Disney, but that has to be worse than the toy store the day before Christmas. I would stick to the pin trader store
I have several pins (gifts from family and friends) and have purchased a lanyard on my last trip to the World in August. I am returning back and want to wear my lanyard and pins. I think I read somewhere that if you wear your lanyard w/pins, you are expected to trade pins if asked. I actually don't want to trade but want to wear my pins, can someone help me with that answer or refer me to the post where this is discussed, thanking you in advanced.

Go ahead and wear them! You are not required to trade pins off of your lanyard, only castmembers on stage are required to trade off of their lanyard (some restrictions apply )
You may be asked by other guests to look at your pins and they may ask if they are for trade. You can just politely let them know they are not for trade.
