If you wear a castaway member(silver, gold, platinum) lanyard, a CM will figure you know what’s going on and they don’t have to offer common knowledge information. It’s amazing what people didn’t find out while on the cruise, that they found out after. Like Mickey Bars and Cake of the day. It’s nice to keep a few singles in the card holder so you can give a cash tip also, sometimes you want a tip of person who you did not purchase anything from. It helps with extra perks along the cruise too.do we need lanyards?

That is weird - in the past you've always had to be DVC to get the DVC stuff.if you visit the DVC kiosk onboard, they will give you one also.
you can also visit the DVC kiosk and get their gift each day. We are DVC members but on our cruise, anyone could get the daily gifts.
we got lanyards, draw string bags, stickers, Riviera print (declined this because we have 2 already), I can’t remember what else though.
you will receive one for each member of your party on your second cruise.
sorry i was assuming that the OP was traveling with the same family/party. but yes, depending on your cruise status, you get the silver, gold, or platinum lanyard or no lanyard if it is your first cruise.Note that lanyards are given for each cruise guest individually. If your party has two silver members and two new cruisers, then you'll get two silver lanyards. I know this because we were in a similar situation in February when we took two new people with us.
On the second cruise (we did two!), the new cruisers were technically silver members, but their status hadn't gone through the system in time to distribute lanyards to the stateroom. When we went to guest services, they actually checked with shoreside to verify that the new people were silver members before getting out lanyards for them. No freebies without status, I guess!
idk if it is Weird but like i said our ship was not at capacity. I am DVC and my daughter is NOT. She got all the DVC daily gifts. That is weird - in the past you've always had to be DVC to get the DVC stuff.
If you went to the DVC desk together, that would be why your daughter also got stuff. They shouldn't be giving out things to non members, but in the same family I'm sure they will. (If she went alone and said my mom is a member, they may have given her stuff then as well.) We were always able to get stuff for everyone in our room.idk if it is Weird but like i said our ship was not at capacity. I am DVC and my daughter is NOT. She got all the DVC daily gifts.
I did get the large magnet (made up of smaller magnets) on my door on arrival and ONE Dvc lanyard but my daughter and I both got another one day from the DVC ladies.
I got a lanyard on my first Disney cruise. The check-in agent just handed it to me; I didn't ask. I imagine it happens occasionally.Note that lanyards are given for each cruise guest individually. Nope. I even said to the agent that I was excited to be taking my first DCL cruise.Lucky!
Before the shutdown, lanyards were given to Castaway Club members at check-in. Now, they're left on the bed in the stateroom. I wonder if you somehow ended up in the CC line and got a lanyard when you weren't meant to.
Wait while you make a good point that it fits in a wallet. Slightly less than half of the wallets don’t have a pocket to go into so need to go into a purse. While I have been known by my family and friends for having the smallest purses, the lanyard wins for me hands down! Guys have it so good. I never find clothes with pockets, I’m probably too cheap. You do not need lanyards. You need the card to access your room and to get off and on the ship. Supposedly you no longer need it for charging things to the room, they just ask your room #. The card easily fits in a wallet.
