Lanyard yes or no?

We just became a Universal family last summer after dozens of Disney trips (my boys are 15 and 8). As the designated ticket/Fast Pass holder I loved the Magic Bands, made my life so much less stressful. After 1 day of constantly digging room keys/passes out of my bag/pockets our first day in Universal our priority the next morning was to go the store at the front of the park and have everyone pick out a lanyard. So much easier and less stressful. Tons of people have them, so you won't feel out of place, trust me. Even my "too cool for school" 15 year old wears his no issues.

A few plusses to lanyards to consider:
1. They usually have people at multiple places in the line to check and/or scan your pass. Cuts back on collecting and redistributing passes.
2. For locker rides, I cannot tell you how many times we accidentally locked up our passes/room keys. Not only do you need them for EP, but to reopen the lockers. Duh! No issues with that if it is on the lanyard.
3. If you have AP's, several times we got discounts/privilege's we didn't even know about because the cast member saw our AP's on our lanyards.
4. We just tuck them down our shirts on rides. Less risk of losing them....especially for me who doesn't always have a pocket.

I am not a lanyard person in any other area of my life but at Universal, yes, I put one on when I’m staying on-site and have an Express Pass.

It’s not necessary for sure but is quite a bit more convenient and easy and if you’re on vacation why not make things a bit easier?

I find the lanyards convenient except I have to wear 3. Mine and my two kids. For some reason they fiddle with them and then loose them. Not a one time thing either, and they are 9 and 12. Lanyards make express pass easy because you constantly have to take them out but if I don’t have express pass, the AP‘s go in my small purse.

I agree with using a lanyard. We took my nephew (16) with us to UO/IOA and he thought he could just pull his ticket/room key out of his pocket each time. I warned him he would drop it and not notice, of course he said that wouldn't happen. Second ride and it was gone. Had to go to guest services for new tickets. He wore a lanyard for the rest of the trip!

Just to let you know our experience Without a lanyard on our very first Universal visit. It was awkward getting the EP out. We even held up the line at one point because we grabbed the wrong thing. felt horrible and embarrassed. We always use a lanyard now. It makes life so much easier.

I don't use a lanyard. I stick my Express Pass in my pocket. Have never lost it and it works fine. I probably just jinxed myself.

Love using a lanyard at Universal. It's so convenient to have somewhere to tuck all of your cards (I take credit card, ID & Universal cards). This way I don't have to carry a wallet or bag. Many rides require you to lock up your bags in lockers, and it's great to be able to skip those. You don't have to worry about looking weird or standing out either. :magnify: I would say half, or even most people, wear one.

My dad had us all pick out lanyards since we had the EP on our last Universal trip. Going to see if I can find my lanyards again or just get one at Disney to use-very helpful!

They're not necessary at VB. You get a electronic bracelet thing called a TapuTapu (like Disney's Magic Band) that you'll use to reserve/check in for rides, pay for food/drinks, etc.
Upon entry I assume... Does the tapu need to be linked to anything or setup? Thanks!

Yes, you get the TapuTapu upon entry at VB (if that's what you meant). It's been a couple of years since we were there so my memory of the process is a little fuzzy, but you should recieve it upon admission and turn it in when you leave. If you have the UO app and a CC linked on it, you can link it to the TapuTapu so you can charge everything to the bracelet.

Thank you for explaining to a noob!!! If anyone wants to chime in with more sage wisdom feel free. This is embarrassing...
