Okay, I know this is really going to out me as a newbie but I just gotta ask......what the heck is a lanyard, where do you get them and why on earth do I need one????? I'm getting the drift by other posts that you wear them around your neck and it holds your room card/tickets etc??? Please enlighten me about this. I would really love to see a picture if anyone has it! Thanks for anyone's help.

A lanyard is a large ribbon loop you wear around your neck. Yes, you can hold your room key, and other cards in the plastic holder. It also holds pins from pin trading. You don't need one, but I liiked having the convience of using it since we were on the dining plan, it kept the card handy and close by.

Here's the Disney site showing the lanyards http://eventservices.disney.go.com/pintrading/search/results?keywords=lanyard

Thank you for asking this question and thank you Hockymomto2 for the link. I posted a question on a different board as to where these can be bought before we get to WDW. This has been the best link. Foreget e-bay! Thanks again

OK I guess I am being stupid (again) but I see on the web site you provided, the lanyards but where are the little plastic pouches you keep your stuff in? I don't see any with that attached.

Thanks for your help!

You can purchase lanyards anywhere nowadays, you could even buy the makings to custom make them yourself in a craft store. I work for the Federal government and need to wear my "badge" at all times within the complex, so I'm used to wearing a lanyard. I purchased one at WDW that had the pouch attached...it's a zippered pouch..which is very convenient for room key, dvc card, dde card, annual pass and for those fast passes we get while at WDW...you can even put some $bills in it so you don't have to carry a purse! I like the zippered pouch because it's kind of water proof...wouldn't swim with it on, but for some of the rides that you get splashed on...it keeps everything dry!

Hope this helped....ps....I bought my zippered one in the general store on Main Street!

I bought my lanyard at the resort. (I stayed at Wilderness Lodge.) It came with the pouch and other things (water bottle holder, key ring, etc) I remember being shocked at how inexpensive it really was.

Well I guess I will wait then till I get to Disney to buy them...I was thinking of buying one for each of my kids and adding them to their Easter baskets but I think now I will wait. I did buy my son a penny press book for his basket and a hidden mickey book for my daughters...can anyone else think of anything else Disney I could add for our trip? I already got them a mickey and minnie stuffie at xmas...that is how I told them about our up and coming trip. They also got their autograph books at valentines day. I am planning on getting them some additional Disney dollars too.

Thanks for your help...I cant wait...I think I am more excited then anyone going with me!! I think I will be broke when we get back too.
Speaking of being broke...my son asked if we were going to be poor when we come back from Disney. lol...I said no...but we might be!! lol just kidding :lmao:

Depending on how old your kids are, you might want to get them the Birnbaum's Disney for Kids by Kids book. Not to expensive and I know my son loves to pour through his (he's 8, had it since he was 6, still looks at it regularly)

Here's a picture of me with my pink WDW lanyard:

They sell these in all different colors at all the resorts and parks for just $5 !!

Thanks everyone! I think we have decided to wait til we get to WDW to get the lanyards. Our kids are 12-15 and are not really into the pins.

I think we got our (complimentary) lanyard with Disney's Magical Express which I think we picked up at the resort but I'm not sure where we got it- I can't believe I can't remember!

I also have a 12 and 15 year old. You mentioned they have autograph books. Do you/ they have thick barrelled pens to go with them? Disney suggestes Sharpie brand, but you have to be careful not to get markers as they will mark the character costumes. Also, for their autograph books, i drew pictures of the charcters- one on each page. When my kids were in line, they would turn to the appropriate page for the character to sign. THe characters loved it. If you or they are not artistic, stickers would achieve the same effect. But it could be fun to draw them together. Also, another suggestion, is a photo album to put the photos in. I put the autograph next to the photo. Great keepsake! :wizard:

How old are your kids? I found great Disney sticker books at Cosco. They are large, and have a few different kinds to chose from. There is a princess one, a Lion King one (with Stich, and Bambi) and a Toy Story one (with Incredibles and Nemo). They are really cute, but depending how old your kids are...great for airplane rides!

Actually we are driving and my kids ar 15 and 11 so alittle too old for sticker books...but thanks for the suggestion. I did buy the 15 year old the Hidden Mickey book and my 11 year old the Penny Press book. They both have autograph books with pens that came with them. They are gel pens so I am not too sure if we will be using those though.

I was actually surprised my 15 year old (girl) wanted to do the autograph thing but she does! The book has on the one page, a plastic pocket for the picture of my kid and the character and on the other page next to it is where the character signs....pretty cool book...only thing is, it is alittle bulkier then some auto books...hope that doesn't pose trouble with carrying them.

Thanks everyone for you help!

God I can wait!!
