in reading many posts, I understand that you carry your KTTW cards around in lanyard with a case along with a photo ID...do you have to have photo ID with you at all times in order to use your KTTW card? This will be our first cruise 4/04/04 Wonder and this boards have made planning this trip so much more exciting.,
Thanks to all you experienced cruisers out there!

I showed my photo id and kttw card when I was leaving the boat or returning to get back on the boat. The rest of the time, I just used the kttw card alone.

you can get a KTTW card holder with lanyard at walmart for about $1. look by the wallets and womens perfume. the picture ID is only needed to get on and off the ship. KTTW card is used for buying things and getting in your room. i hope this helps

You only need your photo id when leaving/returning on excursions

thanks, here's another thought/question: I've been told the children, (ages 12-17) traveling in our group only need their original birth certificate with the raised seal to board. Does this mean they need to carry this when we go to CC and Nassau, or will they just be able to carry their card...I would'nt want any of them to lose their original Birth Certificate. I know my son has never rec'vd his school ID so far...which would have his picture on it, and does'nt have a passport...any suggestions!

KYCruiseCrazy, Thanks for telling me where to find the lanyards at Walmart. I went to ours here in Indiana and they had no idea what I was talking about. They had me looking in stationary.
My Walmart may not carry them, but at least now I know to look over by the perfume and wallets. Thanks again.

Children (under 18) need their original certified birth certificate TO BOARD only. After that, I put it in my "documents" stuff and basically never get it out again. On the ship, everyone needs only their KTTW card.

To get on and off the ship at ports, children need only the KTTW card. Adults need the KTTW card AND a photo ID.

There is no need for any school ID or anything like that. No one carries around birth certificated, and no one needs a photo ID on the ship. THe only time you might need the birth certificate again is IF US Customs requests an additional document check at Key West, St. Thomas, or back at Port Canaveral. This is not the usual, but with the heightened security alerts, we have on occasion had extra document checks. These are handled in the theatre before anyone is allowed off the ship. DCL makes it as painless as possible, and you can return to your cabin after the check to put your documents back in a safe place.

Kids get a name tag when they register for the club. THe name tag has a place to store the KTTW card. When a child checks into the club/lab, the counsellors take and file their KTTW card. THey get it back when they leave the programming each time--so the counsellors have the cards ONLY of those children under their care at that time.

Hope this clears things up.

If you want a "cheap" souvineer, wait to buy your lanyard onboard. They were $3 (maybe $6) each. They lanyard has the DCL logo printed all over it. The problem with this is that you have to wait until about 6pm on embarkation day to purchase them because the gift shops don't open until we are out at sea.

For going in the water, DCL has watertight box lanyards. They come in 2 sizes, thin that will hold about 4 kttw and photo ids. The fat size looks like it could hold a pack of ciggarettes (so it is big enough for the kttw & photo id, along with credit card, cash and a couple of chap sticks.

I am so glad for the explanation of how the kids clubs handle the ktww cards. I was wondering what would happen if my DSs lost theirs.

Sounds like Disney has thought of everything.

My daughter lost her KTTW card and went to Guest Services. They reissued her a new one and deactivated the old one.

I believe you have the option of disallowing charges to be made from your child's cards.

An alternative to a lanyard for your card is a neck-style travel wallet.

Here's one from L.L. Bean.

I have a couple of them from Samsonite.

These are little zippered and/or velcro'd bags that can hold your KTTW card, credit card, and a bit of cash. You can wear it around your neck and tuck it under your shirt, or wear it around your waist. It's not bulky at all, and I frequently use mine at the parks and when traveling in general. Just makes keeping keeping your money and credit cards feel a bit more secure.

Our WalMart has the lanyard as mmouse37's pictures show and also a "Shimano waterproof fishing license holder with lanyard" which can be found in a box on the counter in camping and fishing. It is slightly smaller than the one pictured (about the size of the red card labeled ID holder). Also, the one pictured has a breakaway velcro lanyard if you are worried about younger children and the fishing license holder is a one piece lanyard. I bought both and they work great. Good luck finding them

This is NOT the way it was handled on our October cruise on the Wonder. My son carried his card with him, and we allowed him to sign himself in and out. They did not take his KTTW card at any time. Possibly it is handled differently for children whose parents bring them to the clubs, signing them in and out each time, but during the spiel given at the orientation the counselors never mentioned taking any child's KTTW at any time.

Do you have any idea how much these 2 box lanyards cost?

I think they are in the neighborhood of $6 for the small and $7 for the "cigarette pack" size. That seems to be how much we paid it.
