Lane Swimming

Hi

We are staying at BWV for the majority of our two week stay in October, DH and I swim with a masters team and want to keep up some of the pace during our vacation...I understand the Dolphin is the only resourt on Disney property that has a pool for lane swimming...what are my chances to pool hop from the BWV to the Dolphin?

The pool at the Dolphin is only for Dolphin and Swan guests. It's not included in DVC pool hopping. Sorry.

You might try early morning in the quiet (leisure) pool at BWV.

I wish we could purchase a pass or something from the Dolphin...it is just not the same to swim in short pools, hard to get a good workout, especially if there is alot of folks hanging out in the pool (which I know is what a pool is supposed to be used for in Florida and on vacation!).

I had called Dolphin once to see if we could purchase some time in the pool, but they said no...perhaps I need to try again...never take the first answer!

As a DVC member, I try to maximize the time spent at DVC resorts to get my money's worth, so staying at the Dolphin to use the pool wouldn't make sense for us...swimming is important but not that important There is a sports facility but not a pool at the Wide World of Sports complex.

My son is a competative swimmer and when we vacation in Orlando he gets his practices in at the YMCA Aquatic Center on International Drive. It's not too far.

The Casitas pool at CSR is marked for lane swimming. Never swam there, but based on pictures I'd guess it's 25-30 yards but not deep enough for flip turns.

When our eldest was in HS and swimming he would arise very early and swim at the oval shaped "quiet pool" at the Polynesian. I'm guessing it might be 20-25 yds but can't remember if he could do flip turns for sure. However, I think he could.

I would get a mug of tea and be lifeguard.

I wonder how long the BCV pool is? It is fairly big and would be easy to get to. Perhaps someone there right now could give you an estimate.

I'm guessing the BCV quiet pool is 12.5 yards. So... not long enough for a serious workout, but long enough to feel like you've done something to move your muscles.

Oh... something else that I thought was a fun way to get a workout (but again, not a serious workout if you're trying to keep to a regimen) is swimming laps the wrong way around the lazy river part of Stormalong Bay. I got some funny looks, but I definitely got some good exercise.

Thanks for your replys...we had to change our bookings the first few nights of our trip because our airline carrier (Canjet) went belly-up, so we booked a few nights at CSR...so good to hear that it has a good pool! One thing I have learned is that on vacation exercise has to be convenient for us to do it (all that park walking tires us out but not in the same way as a real workout!). We will give the quiet pools at the different resorts we are staying at this trip a try too! Here's hoping!

Hello: The Swan has lanes for swimming laps and if you go in the morning there is no one there. Just walk over with your suit on and swim. Remember to bring a towel. I've stayed at the Swam many times and they don't remove anyone from the pool, no one is there. There are no life gaurds and their control is on towels, you need a Swan room key to get towels. Enjoy the swim. The other reason no one is at the Swan pool is because the water is cooler than their theme pool, so all the kids go there.

Talked to my son about the quiet pool at the Polynesian. He thinks it is more like 15-20 yds. He did flip turns but there is a set of steps on one end and so at that end he just flipped with no pushoff. Fairly shallow too but he was used to that.

But sounds like you have a good solution.

I too swim masters. I did use the pool at the Dolphin when we stayed there (a little disconcerting doing backstroke because the Dolphin building is at an angle to the pool, the lane lines were not in correctly, and there were no flags). We go in January and I was probably the only one that used the pool that day For swimming at the Dolphin pool there is a gym area with locker rooms and an attendant in the Dolphin building's bottom floor at the end by the pool. My guess is that you may be able to get in "legally" if you explain the situation to the attendant and either tip or pay a guest fee. They do not have pace clocks .

I was told by a CM that the pool at CSR is the closest to a "competition sized" lap pool in the Disney resorts.
