Land/Sea Trip Report - I *Promise* to Inform and *Hope* to Entertain!

I just thought of a question I have. The weather at that time of year? What are the air/water temps like in Orlando and the Bahamas?

In Orlando, the weather was absolutely gorgeous! It was in the high 70s / low 80s every day. We were able to wear shorts every day with no problem. We even attempted to swim at the Poly but, since the pool heater was broken, we ended up pretty shivery after about 30 minutes.

The weather in Nassau and Castaway Cay was great too, although the water at Castaway Cay was too cold for my taste. DH kept telling me that it was fine once you got used to it, but I couldn't stand it for more than a few minutes. However, there were a lot of people swimming at Castaway Cay so perhaps I was just being a wuss :upsidedow . On the boat, the pools were fine during the day, but it got a bit chilly at night with the wind.

Hope that helps. Take care!

Great report so far. We're considering land/sea for next year so I look forward to reading more.

:thumbsup2 I love this! It's exactly what I've been searching for!:cool1: We hope to do this Jan.09 with our two boys.:yay: I can't wait to hear more.:surfweb:

Just found your report, Enjoying it.. We are planning a land/sea for our 35th anniversary next year..

Anxiously awaiting your future installments!

We are planning our first Land-Sea trip for November.
Although I've been to the World over a dozen times and on 5 other non-Disney cruises, I have yet to partake in the DCL experience. Any and all "details" would be greatly appreciated! :flower3:

As we were saying goodbye to Animal Kingdom at 2:15 p.m., I was informed (again) that our room still isn’t ready. Now, I’m starting to panic. Allow me to digress a bit, but as a legal secretary, I am very much the “gatekeeper” for my attorneys. So, my motto in that regard is that if people are jerks they never get through the “gate.” Therefore, in “real” life, I attempt to always be polite and appreciative to anyone in the customer service field with the hope that my good intentions will pay off (and because being kind to people is just good karma). Anyway, upon hearing that our room isn’t ready (again), I told the CM at the desk about our photoshoot predicament. The CM tells me that there are available rooms, but that these available rooms don’t have the patio that my assigned room has. Okay. Whatever it takes - thank you so very much, Sir. I certainly will grumble about the missing patio later, but at that point we just didn’t have time to deal with it – we had to get our room, undertake a complete wardrobe change, and get to the GF - all within 45 minutes.

Little did I know that when I changed rooms that our KsTTW needed to be reissued. UG – back to the Poly lobby (which is now hopping because it’s close to “real” check-in time) and wait, wait, wait. Finally, a CM gets us new KsTTW and we head off to our room (which is thankfully located in the “Fiji” building which is pretty close to the main building). By this time, it’s 2:45 so we frantically change and get back to our car. Now, as we’re making the long walk back to the parking lot, DH suggests that we take the monorail. Here’s my reaction: “ummmm, what, did you say, Dear? Are you suggesting that we take this crazy thing that we have no experience on and have no idea where it picks up or where it drops off when we have 10 minutes to get to our (my) precious photoshoot.” Needless to say, I nixed DH’s idea. Which was a mistake. Are you all starting to see a theme here? ;)

I really thought that we were going to be okay. I mean, the GF is literally next door to the Poly. DH dropped me off in front of the (breathtakingly gorgeous) GF main building and said he and The Big will park and meet me at the photoshoot in a few minutes. Little did we know that self parking for the GF is across the street. I actually did check in with our PhotoPass photog, Faith, just a few minutes late :rolleyes1 . When I explained the situation and that DH would be right behind me, Faith said fine and to come back when we were all accounted for. Well, I waited. And waited. And waited some more (in my ridiculous Christmas puffy skirt). Oh, I just cannot convey to you all how mortified I was and I *know* that I looked like an idiot. I wasn’t keeping track at this point but I think that we didn’t make it back upstairs to meet Faith until 3:15 or so (the shoot is only supposed to last 20 minutes, I believe).

I know that everyone was frazzled and upset, which is why I try my best never to be late. Faith did a good job, though. Given the circumstances, I didn’t feel I had the right to expect anything, but Faith ended up taking about 60 pictures. I actually fancy myself to be an okay photographer (and I try really hard at it) and I would say that probably 40 of the pictures were properly exposed and well framed, and that about 7 of them were real “keepers.” I don’t know about you all, but whenever we’ve tried family pictures, I’ve never really felt like we’ve gotten great results, so I really was pleased to get 7 good ones.

I’ve attached a few of the pictures to this report just in case any of you were interested in exactly what types of shots we got. Also, as a warning, in the rush of getting ready, I did not put one spot of makeup on my face nor did I do anything with my hair.

Since we prepaid for the PhotoPass, the cost of the photoshoot was only $30, and I’m really glad that we did it. We certainly will plan to do it again, unless the price skyrockets out of control, of course.

Also, in getting dressed for the photoshoot, DH realized that he forgot his belt (actually, since I did the packing, technically I forgot it). So, after the photoshoot, we ended up purchasing the most expensive souvenir, by far, of our entire trip – a man’s leather belt which, coincidentally, we could only find in the men’s store - - at the GF.

That night, we had dinner at Ohanas, which is a restaurant that seems to be very well received on The DIS. We tried it and found it to be just okay (yes, even the banana pudding dessert was just “okay.”). I think that in this restaurant you’re either rushed or ignored by the servers – we were ignored. Oh, and, DH managed to acquire 2 more pins for “The Big’s” lanyard, today. :upsidedow

Enjoying your report. We are planning on doing a land/sea package next year for our 15th anniversary. Also loved the pics at the GF.

Can't wait to hear more. FH and I are doing the 3 day land and 4 day at sea in July for our honeymoon. I have done it before and love it.

Subscribing! We're doing a land/sea in November and I'm excited to find out how yours turned out!

Great start! Can't wait to hear the rest! I'm just starting to think about doing a Land and Sea next Christmas....so I'm taking notes!

As for the stress of your DHs job before you left....it happened to us too! Right before our first trip my DHs job was really bad. Well, the afternoon before we were to leave, literally 16 hours before our departure, I had the van already loaded, DH called and told me we couldn't go....there was nothing he could do. I was heartbroken. Then he worked and worked and worked for months, things let up and we rescheduled. Right before that date things got bad again. We moved it a few days....and 24 hours before that departure he called and said we could go!

Looking forward to all the rest!
Katy

Oh my goodness, that would have just been horrible - I can't imagine how heartbroken you were! It just seems sometimes that work has a radar about someone taking a vacation and then the pile-on starts. We are going back in September for 9 days that I'm really worried that the same thing is going to happen.

Great report! Can't wait to read the rest!! We are doing a land/sea on our own-not a package next week for my 30th birthday so I am interested in the differences....And your daughter is adorable!! :cutie:

Just found this! We leave in 16 days for our land/sea trip! We booked seperate though, so we are staying at Pop for 6 days, then on to the wonder for a 3 night cruise. Can't wait for more!

Thank you Perdie and have a wonderful 30th birthday!!!

I think that booking separately is the absolute BEST way to go - I wish that we would have done it that way, but I definitely learned my lesson.

To everyone else - I finally figured out how to multi-quote so hopefully I'll be responding a bit better than I was previously. Next installment will be up tonight or tomorrow. I hope everyone has a great weekend!!:goodvibes

I have been dying to know how, could you please :worship: enlighten me as well? Thank you so much for all your time you have put in on your wonderful report so far. :lovestruc

Okay - let me try and explain. If you want to make multiple quotes, highlight the portion of the text that you want to quote and click the multi-quote "button." The button will turn red. Then, keep going through and highlighting the various things you want to respond to and hit the multi-quote button each time. When you are done, hit the Reply button and window will be brought up which will allow you to respond to each person. It's easy and great. GOOD LUCK! :)

This Friday morning was our Magic Kingdom morning. Today also marked our first time using the monorail. We boarded on the monorail promptly at 7:30 a.m. and, yes, I kicked myself when I realized that our first stop was the Grand Floridian. :headache: I sure wish that I wouldn’t have nixed DH’s suggestion the previous day for the photoshoot. :headache: :headache: Oh well – live and learn.

Up until now, I really wasn’t feeling a lot of Disney magic, I’ll be honest with you. However, I had big expectations for today – breakfast at Cinderella’s Royal Table at 8:05 a.m. and Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique for The Big at 11:00 a.m. We had already purchased a Cinderella dress for The Big to wear specifically for this day, so she wore it to MK.

Now, we all know that Disney marketers are geniuses, but that morning I got a glimpse of why the Disney brand is so successful. We were greeted no less than probably 100 times that morning with “Good Morning, Princess.” The Big thought she was hot stuff and we (as the parents) got to be reminded every time we heard the phrase that, yes, indeed she is our princess. Yup, sheer genius.

Anyway, since we had such an early ADR, there were probably only about 50 other people that were let in when we were. We didn’t “have the parks to ourselves” but it was close. At least we got some pictures of Cindy’s castle without hoards of people in front of it. In fact, here are a couple for your viewing pleasure:

Breakfast at Cindy’s castle is a pretty hotly debated topic here on The DIS. Some say the food is horrible; some say it’s too expensive; some say that the princesses are rushed; and some say it’s a wonderful experience. Well, chalk us up to those who LOVED the experience. It may be because we got an incredibly great selection of princesses (Cindy (of course), Belle, Aurora, Snow White, and Jasmine), but the food was piping hot, the service was wonderful, and DH and I even got champagne glasses in recognition of our anniversary. I love that the princesses are so “in” character. I accidentally flipped my camera settings, so I only have a few from the breakfast that turned out:

After breakfast, I sent DH off for a FastPass to Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, and The Big and I rode the Carousel and Dumbo and then we all meandered our way to Frontierland, riding Snow White’s Scary Adventure, Peter Pan, and It’s A Small World on our way. We had a few minutes before our FastPass window opened, so we hopped on Splash Mountain.

PC070496.jpg

Now, I had previously reported The Big’s negative reaction to getting splashed on Kali (at AK), and my thought that her reaction was a complete fluke. Unfortunately, upon hearing that we were getting ready to go on “Splash” Mountain, The Big started whining about not wanting to go on it. Now, in our home, DH and I don’t succumb to The Big’s whining. She knows that her choices are to either converse like the adults or be ignored. Since the standby line for Splash Mountain was only 5 minutes, we got our log before The Big remembered that she doesn’t get anywhere with us by whining. Unfortunately for us (and the others sharing our log), we got hit squarely by a shoot of water out of the, um, chute, and The Big went from whining to crying in seconds. She was totally fine with the drops, but just didn’t want to get wet. So, since we now knew for certain that The Big wasn’t going to enjoy any more water rides, we made it our goal not to subject her to any more of them.

Well, if Splash Mountain was a dud, Big Thunder Mountain Railroad was a HUGE hit with The Big. DH was very happy to learn that he was going to have another thrill-seeker in the family. After riding BTMR a second time, we headed to Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique for The Big’s makeover.

Although we had to wait about 30 minutes past our ADR time, this experience was pure magic. Our two Fairy Godmothers In Training were just angels. They were engaging, sweet, interested, unrushed, witty, fun, and really seemed to love what they were doing. They let The Big pick out her own makeup, crown, and jewels, and, with every decision, they praised The Big for her wonderful taste. One example of the MANY incredible things they said was when they discovered that The Big was wearing Crocs under her princess dress. They told her that Cinderella wears Crocs every morning before she changes into her glass slippers. Maybe you just had to be there to understand, but I just can’t say enough about how wonderful these young women were. They brought *both* DH and I to tears because of how happy and special they made The Big feel.

After BBB, we headed to Tomorrow Land to check that out. We did Buzz and then ate a few hamburgers at Cosmic Ray’s (can anyone tell me what exactly the hamburgers are made of there – ours were grey and tasteless – YUCK!!!!). After our bleh lunch, we moved onto Toon Town. When The Big saw the Barnstormer, she immediately started jumping up and down with excitement. This ride definitely became her immediate favorite.

Since MK was really starting to fill up by this time, and since I don’t deal well with crowds, I decided that now was the time for us to start making our way toward the exit. We stopped for a few more pictures, and decided that we were done with MK for the day.

Hi, I've really been enjoying your TR. I have a couple of questions for you.

First of all, love the pics of your daughter and her makeover. Maybe this is a silly questions but did you bring that dress in the pics yourself or did you buy the castle package and that's the dress that come with? Love the dress and I'm looking for one for my 4 year old DD. Did she wear it at the park just a little bit or just when you got there?

Second question, maybe I missed something but why do you say that next time you will do your own land and sea package instead of the disney package? We are doing our second land and sea and just wondering if I should be doing something differently.

Thanks for sharing your vacation with us.
