Land purchase?

OK, so one of my coworkers is trying to convince me that she heard that Disney has bought land in either Virginia or Maryland, and will be constructing a new park.

Obviously, I'm not buying it until you guys say so

But I am curious ..... is anything Disney-related happening in that area? New Disney store or something, maybe?

They did buy land, but it is for a resort, not a park. Now could this change, absolutely, but at this point the most that has been even discussed is a resort, possibly DVC with a hotel portion (similar to Hawaii).

This could also change that Disney does absolutely nothing with the land purchased, for years.

Disney has puchased land (approximately 55 acres) at National Harbor, which is a mixed-use development South of Washington on the Maryland shore of the Potomac River. They are putting in a Resort.

They had taken option on about 3000 acres in Haymarket, Virginia, which was about 27 miles West of DC just off I-66, but that fell through when Eisner chickened out shortly after Frank Wells died. This would have been a historical Theme Park called Disney's America.

But the DC land purchase is true. What they do with it now is up to them. All that is known is a "resort".

Nope! Actually, Disney bought ALL of Maryland and Virginia. If you live there, you don't anymore. Get out! Get off Disney property so they can build a park/hotel/resort/DVC property/monorail stop/parking lot. Get off now!

That's just the first step...there is a reason they called the project "Disney's America", after all...
