Lance Armstrong..

Sorry, can't stand the guy. He just rubs me the wrong way for some reason.

Don't care..just don't like him and never have.

That is fair enough. He does have an abrasive personality. There is a big difference though between not liking him personally and having proof he cheated professionally. Part of why I like him is that he is a winner and I really like winners.

I love Lance Armstrong and think that we are so conditioned to believe the worst in people that he is going to be dealing with this long after he hangs up his bike helmet for good.

To be fair to Lance, that abrasive personality probably comes from having to deal with the CONSTANT questions about whether he did or did not dope. He could win a Tour de France, and the first question will be: "Lance, did you dope?"

Maybe I'm reading to much into it but one he always says bothers me. He never says that he never used illegal substances, he only says he was never found guilty.
Besides that I am a bike rider and think he is one of...if not the best ever. I also like his charity work and very impressed with him coming back after cancer treatment.
I am a Lance fan, that one statement just bothers me.

Steriod test is very tricky. Because they keeping making & changing how it is made. You can only screen for specific compounds so they have to try to keep up with the newer Steriods. which why it also very expensive.

Steroids are not an issue for modern road cycling. If anything they would hinder a cyclist and not help them. The case might be made for them helping in some of the classics (though I still highly doubt it) but the grand tours? No way.

I have never heard, even from Lance's most stringent critics and people who insist he doped, that he used steroids.

The other thing to remember is that the way cycling tests their athletes is quite different and far stricter then just about anyone else. Through devices like the biological passport and even the standard WADA and UCI tests they aren't just testing for banned substances like most sports. They are testing for the lingering effects of doping. Floyd Landis never was found to have any banned substances in his system. Not EPO, not steroids, nothing. He was found guilty from an unnatural ratio of testosterone to epitestosteone (T/E ratio).

So while merely masking an illegal agent is enough in many sports it isn't enough in cycling. You have to mask not only the agent but the effect which is vastly more difficult because it is that exact effect that gives you the advantage in the first place.

I admire him for all of his charity work but I agree with many on this thread that think his personality leaves something to be desired.

If I was constantly defending myself against something I didn't do, I probably wouldn't be terribly charming, either.
