I have another one though - a good friend of mine from HS got a tat across his chest that says "The dude abides" I think its from a movie.... but REALLY?!!?!?!?!?![]()
The Big Lebowski.
The other thing I don't understand is people who don't speak an Asian language want tattoos in Japanese or Chinese calligraphy. How do they know that's really what is says?
I remember one time my father (who does speak, read, and write Chinese and we are not Asian) pointed at someone's tattoo in Chinese and said "I don't think that's what they wanted tattooed."
There was a short-lived TV show that addressed that, it was called Committed. DH is Korean and has "friendship" tattooed on his chest in Chinese, but he did a LOT of research to make Absolutely Sure that it said what he wanted it to say. Anyway, he thought that scene in that show was absolutely hilarious, especially since it's so possible (especially in the Seattle area) to do your due diligence to make sure you're getting what you want to get.
Last summer my DD's and I went to a wedding shower and there was a lady maybe mid20's we kept staring at her, because her back looked very hairy she had a dress on with a low back, after we got up to eat we realized she was just tattooed all over her back. It was nasty looking.
Jmho
It's too bad you spent so much time, especially at a bridal shower, focusing on that. A friend and I got tiny ankle tattoos that completely distracted some of a bride's aunts during the ceremony, and it was just such a SHAME that they let that bother them so much that they didn't pay attention. (then again, that friend just got divorced after 20 years of marriage, so in the end I supposed it was OK)
I actually want a tattoo, but don't know where to start finding a reputable shop to get one!
We have multiple shops here, and I need to start asking people with tattoos where they got theirs.
I don't know about Aberdeen, but if you're ever in Tacoma, House of Tattoo on 6th ave is very reputable. And it's been there for a long time. And I went to college with the woman that created the business (she was an art major).
I went to a place down near the bases that looked awful, but that woman did her apprenticeship with him, and he was reputable as well. Good ol' Ace.
So I have a tattoo that was an OK idea (to get one at that time with the friend I got it with) but it was a dumb image ("what do you want to get?" "I dunno, what do you want?" "Hey, that funky stylized flower design on your early 90s near-stirrup pants is cool, let's get that in yellow, orange and blue!"). I've wanted to cover it up for AGES but didn't want to insult my friend...until she texted and facebooked me from the tattoo parlor, 30 minutes before she was having it covered up. So now all bets are off.
The problem, however, is that it hurt like almost nothing else. And since I doubt I can find someone reputable who would give me a tattoo while in active labor in the future should I get pg again, AND I certainly hope I don't have another posterior with hand-at-face baby to cause that much pain...so really, I don't know if I'll be able to get it covered up...
Sigh.
