Laissez les bon temps Rouler...Feb 2010 2/20 MK Last part of the Night updt 9/70 pg65

He does like dinosaurs. I'm just worried about the noise. Did it seem like it scared a lot of kids that you know of?

Hi again. Great update! Your pics make me want to try T-Rex but I'm not sure that it will be in the budget. I thought about doing the build a dino last year even though we didn't eat there but I wanted a Tigger more. :upsidedow
I like Danielle's backpack. I am a total Vera Bradley fan. I have the large backpack in peacock. I also have a few other styles and colors.

It's not cheap. I think I would like to hit it for just some apps next time. You could skip eating there and still check out the shop and build a dino.

Danielle loves her backpack! For Easter she got a mini hipster in the Bali Gold pattern. It's the perfect size for her.

I didn't see any scared kids. When we were at Rainforest I did see some kids freak out when the animals made noise and moved. I don't remember the dinosaurs moving but there is a meteor shower every couple of minutes that was loud.

Okay, thanks! We might consider it!

There are a few things I wanted to mention about our arrival day. When we left for DTD we had made a call to have the fridge fixed. I'm happy to report when we returned to our room it was fixed and they had put some water in Gatorade in it for us.;) I had also requested more pillows. They were not waiting for us but after a quick call housekeeping brought them to our room. They said they were waiting for us to check up, which made no sense since I had called from the room after check in to ask for them. I was very happy to have those extra pillows but they were too big. They were extremely fluffy. We aren't use to our heads being that far up. Although the bed itself was very comfortable we all had trouble sleeping with the pillows. We also had a call waiting for us when we returned too. It was our Happy Anniversary call from Mickey. When I booked I had told them we were celebrating our 25th which was actually April 5th.

As far as our overall plan for the day the only thing we really missed out on was closing the night at the Magic Kingdom. In theory it was a great idea but not in reality. Traveling and walking around DTD for a few hours took too much out of us.

I wanted to get started on our first park day this weekend but we ended up having a very busy weekend. On Sunday we drove to New Orleans to visit the Insectarium. Not my first choice but Dennis has been wanting to go for over a year. I wanted to do the water park Blue Bayou. Michelle had to work so Danielle invited a friend to go with us. We headed out round 10:45 for the drive down there. After finding a place to park and walking back to the building we entered at around 12 or so. The Insectarium is located right near the Mississippi River and the Aquarium of the Americas. It is right on the edge of the area considered part of the French Quarter.

WARNING! If you don't like bugs at all don't look at this update!

The building is decorated with lots of big fake bugs.

It also has LOTS of real bugs! Gross!

This one looks like a giant leaf.

Very pretty!

There is one room that is dark and set up like you're underground with big bugs. The girls are sitting on a worm.

They're being attacked here.

Fake bug!

Real bug!

More to come!

They have a section set up on bugs as the relate to Louisiana especially New Orleans. This is has to be any homeowners worst nightmare. Can you imagine opening your kitchen cabinet to this?

or this?

Next we had a small snack in the eating area. If you go all the way to the back you can sample some food made with bugs. Although we did walk back there to see what they had no one took any samples. YUCK! The tables had bugs inside them on display. We didn't have a table but we did check them out on the way out.

Imagine eating with this!

We walked through a Louisiana section with basically what you would see in the swaps. They had a baby white alligator and this fake alligator. The girls tried to wrestle it.

Next more bugs.

They even had a movie like "It's Tough to Be a Bug". It wasn't 3d and of course not as good at it either, but it was too bad. The seating area moved and things did surprise you. Danielle hates ITTBAB so we wouldn't sit in her seat, she just hovered by it.

Next up was the only section I wanted to see...Butterflies. First we went into an area that had a person showing the different stages of butterflies and moths. They even had a screen showing an episode of Dirty Jobs. I've never seen it but Mike did a show about working there.

Butterfly Garden next!

The Butterfly Garden was set up like a Japanese Garden. It was very pretty, serene and humid.

Once you exited here you went into the dump shop. We spent quite a while in here while the girls picked out what they wanted. We used the restroom them headed out into the heat to walk around the French Quarter and looks for a meal. We headed towards Jackson Square first by walking along the river.

We crossed back over to the street when we got to the Jackson Square area.

There were lots of these out.

When we went to the Aquarium in January of 2009 we walked around the quarter and went into this place. Danielle wanted to show it to her friend.

Lots of interesting stuff.

I wanted to go inside just because the air conditioning was so wonderful.

They even had a Zoltar like in Big!

More New Orleans!

You weren't kidding when you warned us about the bugs!

Looking forward to the butterfly pictures. For some reason they don't seem like actual bugs.

Thanks for all the T-rex pictures. We're heading there for the first time. My DS hated the rainforest cafe for years. He was fearful of the storms but now that his is in grade 6 I'm sure he can handle T-rex. Still it was nice to show him all the pictures so he knows what to expect.

We headed into the square and saw this interesting guy. A one man band and he was pretty good.

Some lovely buildings.

The Cabildo.

St Louis Cathedral. This is where Michelle says she wants to get married someday. Keep dreaming!

Looks like something was going on. Everyone was dressed in white.

Another interesting guy.

Jackson Brewery.

And of course Cafe Du Monde home of the Beinget, but it was too hot for them today.

We headed back down St Peters to catch a bite in the Hard Rock Cafe. It was an okay meal but nothing special. It was nice to get out of the heat again.

On our way back down Canal Danielle got this pictures.

And that is it!

I was afraid I was going to have nightmares last night about but. But when we got home we watched "Wolfman". I think they canceled each other out.

TREX was big hit with our group. I think your son will love it. I'm glad he enjoyed the pictures.

Did he see the bug pictures?

bugs...nasty.

I think I am caught up. The look and buy later method is truly the best way to go....:thumbsup2

You really did explore most of DTD from end to end...I'm impressed.

The bugs were very nasty and have me the willies!:scared1:

Look and buy later is a great method when you can stick to it.

This was the first time we had walked and gone in almost every store since Dennis and I took our adult only trip in 2002.

The cockroaches....eek.

I definitely used the look first method this trip and I ended up with better purchases overall. It is hard to stick to. I find I fail most when it comes to perishables like candy.....

I hope to do more exploring my next trip.....sounds fun and relaxing.

The cockroaches are what get to me the most! We have big ones here in Louisiana!

Candy is most definitely impulse buying. I can't tell you have may rock candy packs Danielle went through. She found some on Sunday at the Insectarium too.

Just think of all the bathrooms you could check out.:thumbsup2

I've had cockroaches jump at me from urinal drains at church......talk about scary....

My weakness is cherry sour balls. and any chocolate covered nut...

Apparenty there is some great restroom on the West Side.....motivation enough for me to do more exploring.

Now that is scary!

Dennis' favorite candy is cherry sours! I like just about anything chocolate.

The pictures of Dennis and I were taken right outside those very restrooms. Very clean and uncrowded.:thumbsup2

For some reason I only associate cherry sours with Disney even though you can get them at other places. Chocolate and nuts just seem to go together for me.....add a little caramel....:cloud9:

Oh..so you know those restrooms....thanks for the review......I am now on a mission.
