Laguna Beach info needed

We'll be in Laguna Beach for a symposium the last week in March. I am trying to find out as much info as possible before the trip. We'll be staying at the Surf and Sand Resort Hotel and we will have a rental car. Any advice on where to dine (affordable, not expensive)? Things to do during our down time?

I've never heard anyone come away from the Surf and Sand unhappy, so I'm sure it will be a great visit.

As far as restaurants go, Laguna is known for great food. As far as inexpensive good restaurants go, "Sundried Tomato" is great. There are many small places, delis and coffee houses, that are great. It really depends on what you're hungry for...

As far as leaving Laguna, how much time will you have to go exploring? That will likely dictate how far you can venture.
