Her songs are catchy and fun but her persona is that of a whack job.

Am I the only one that thinks this?

She's just an average talent with a brilliant marketing machine and management team.:)

I'll just re-post what I wrote in the other Gaga thread:

I don't think anyone who is different is a freak. If you eat human flesh, ok, you're a freak. But, wearing what you want even if it's eccentric does not equal being a freak in my book. I find her very intriguing and envy the fact that she doesn't care about people who think she's a "freak" She eats, sleeps, and breathes for her fans and I think that's really cool. She is a great singer (especially if you listen to some of her old stripped down stuff), although her newer stuff is great too, and she has a very positive message to share in a world that really needs positivity. I'm a singer and I admire the fact that she actually has natural talent and isn't all auto-tune.

If you listen to her interviews and read the things she writes, it becomes clear very quickly that while she knows that the things she wears and does will sell, she doesn't really do any of it JUST to sell. She's a very unique individual and she's just being herself. I don't think she HAS to do any of the weird things she does in order to sell music. She is extremely talented, a hard worker, and very very smart. If I had kids, I'd rather them want to be like her than like Miley Cyrus. LOL!

I always think these people put on an act. I think she tries to act like a nutter. But I think, deep down, she's not. She's working hard to make herself stand out, be different, and get noticed. And it's working.

I agree. She's just trying to get attention, and it is working.

What's wrong with arriving by egg to the Grammys?

Really?

Let's look at Liberace, Elvis, 70's Elton John, Prince, KISS, Alice Cooper, Ozzy, and then don't EVEN make me go to the 80's!!!! Let's look at Flock of Seagulls, Boy George, all HAIR bands.

I could go on.......:lmao:

ETA...must add the King of Pop.

I just don't find her all that original or genius. Her new song is a Madonna rip off and she seems to be trying to hard. Besides, all that showing up half naked to a Mets game, the get up at her sisters graduation, it just screams LOOK AT ME... Im not impressed.

Thought I do like that Poker Face song LOL

Ok, I see what you're saying. I did say that her persona is that of a whack job. That doesn't mean she is actually a whack job. I don't really know who she is. But the way she behaves on stage and on camera is nutty.

Whether or not she is actually nutty, I don't know. I'd have to meet her first.

Good or bad, "nutty" seems to be what sells to her targeted demographic.

You know they were talking celebs like that on the radio the other day.

Like for example Howard Stern. His public persona is a total whack job however people that have met him have said he is super generous and very shy.

I think most people "put on a face" for work. Either to sell themselves or keep from killing their boss, coworkers or customers.;)

I don't know her music, but boy do I hear about her. Every talk show host talks about her and her outfits. I hear a lot of people refer to her as an "artist expressing herself." That may be true, but I am skeptical. I think maybe she does these things to attract attention (read sell cd's) and get people talking about her and interested in her.

Kind of like a marketing gimmick. Who knows what is really going on, maybe she really is just a quirky artist.

I could care less about her and her antics. She's a parody of herself. I'm honestly waiting for the day that finally someone points at her on the red carpet and starts laughing.

She wouldn't care about being laughed at; what she wants is to remain in the public eye, and this is the route she has taken to do it.

Quite frankly, I recognize Madonna's playbook at work, only Gaga has taken it farther than Madonna ever dared to. Katy Perry is on exactly the same marketing plan, only she's adding this wicked little Betty Page nostalgia act to it.

She is definitely "way out there" or I'm just too old to "appreciate" her. ;)

I'm with AngelHalo....

also, I love the message in "Born this Way" and can't wait for the Glee episode!

:):wizard:

At the risk of dating myself, all I could think about that was, is it going to be her or Mork stepping out of that?

I've enjoyed some of her stuff, but I'm sensing that the inevitable tide is getting ready to turn on her. Build 'em up, then tear 'em down.

I totally agree. I do not like to watch her, she kinda creeps me out. But I think she is totally sane, and knows exactly what she is doing. I have however, grown to love her music, more than I care to admit. I have always been a country fan, but I listen to Lady Gaga all the time now, at work and in my car. She is very talented and very catchy, but I still can't watch her perform LOL.

The thing is, before she even became mainstream, she dressed very adventerous for lack of a better word. Now does image sell, absolutely, you would be foolish not to believe that, so is she smart to capitalize on it, yes!

I also think she is talented, she has a natural voice that doesn't require all the sound studio editing (although her voice is still edited for CDs and the like).

If more people were like her in terms of stepping outside the box, being adventerous, I think a lot of today's issues in society wouldn't be there.

I think she tries way too hard. I mean coming down the red carpet in an egg? Gimme a break! People who are talented (which I think she is to some extent) don't need all the ridiculous costumes and crazy gimmicks. As a singer your voice should be what sets you apart from the rest not a meat dress or any other weird things that she does. Maybe if she would've come out of thr egg during her performance it would have been different, but to be carried down the red carpet where the paparazzi are looking to take your picture is just strange.
