Lady Gaga is a nutter....

I think she tries way too hard. I mean coming down the red carpet in an egg? Gimme a break! People who are talented (which I think she is to some extent) don't need all the ridiculous costumes and crazy gimmicks. As a singer your voice should be what sets you apart from the rest not a meat dress or any other weird things that she does. Maybe if she would've come out of thr egg during her performance it would have been different, but to be carried down the red carpet where the paparazzi are looking to take your picture is just strange.

however, I don't think she considers herself just a singer. She is a performance artist. These aren't "gimmicks" or "trying too hard". All of it is part of her art, her message, and her vision.:)

I don't like everything she puts out there, but I understand where it is coming from.:)

She is not doing anything different AT ALL from what Madonna did, combined with a little Marylin Manson, with a little Wendy O Williams, Alice Cooper thrown in. I think she has a great voice, and her songs are very decent compared to alot of the new garbage out there IMO. I could do without all the freaky stuff, its no different to me than those other artists I mentioned, but artists like these think they have to do stuff like this for attention and their image.

She is Madonna, 20 years later.
I think Camille Paglia summed up that connection pretty well:
Lady Gaga is a manufactured personality, and a recent one at that. Photos of Stefani Germanotta just a few years ago show a bubbly brunette with a glowing complexion. The Gaga of world fame, however, with her heavy wigs and giant sunglasses (rudely worn during interviews) looks either simperingly doll-like or ghoulish, without a trace of spontaneity. Every public appearance, even absurdly at airports where most celebrities want to pass incognito, has been lavishly scripted in advance with a flamboyant outfit and bizarre hairdo assembled by an invisible company of elves.

Furthermore, despite showing acres of pallid flesh in the fetish-bondage garb of urban prostitution, Gaga isn’t sexy at all – she’s like a gangly marionette or plasticised android. How could a figure so calculated and artificial, so clinical and strangely antiseptic, so stripped of genuine eroticism have become the icon of her generation? Can it be that Gaga represents the exhausted end of the sexual revolution? In Gaga’s manic miming of persona after persona, over-conceptualised and claustrophobic, we may have reached the limit of an era…

Gaga has borrowed so heavily from Madonna (as in her latest video-Alejandro) that it must be asked, at what point does homage become theft? However, the main point is that the young Madonna was on fire. She was indeed the imperious Marlene Dietrich’s true heir. For Gaga, sex is mainly decor and surface; she’s like a laminated piece of ersatz rococo furniture. Alarmingly, Generation Gaga can’t tell the difference. Is it the death of sex? Perhaps the symbolic status that sex had for a century has gone kaput; that blazing trajectory is over…

If you ever get a chance to hear her live (where her voice isn't so overproduced), or if you get a chance to listen to the stuff that she recorded at NYU, you will hear that she is immensely talented. Her voice is incredible! She's also been playing the piano since she was 4, which she taught herself.

Most of her stuff that gets released isn't that exciting. I like the stuff that she does on her CDs that doesn't get released - it's a lot more original. I think that she's smart enough to know that she needs to put out more pop-ish stuff to get a lot of plays.

I actually reaaaaally love Born This Way. It sounds a lot like the good days of pop music from the 80s and 90s... as does Britney Spears' new Hold it Against Me. I hope that pop music is going to start sounding like that again :)
