Ladies that had a c-section... riding long distances?

I can't believe all the 6 weeks without driving! I had to go back to work at 5 weeks after my 3rd c-section, so I was lucky to be able to drive after 10 days!

Make sure you do stop at least once to walk around, but I would think you should be fine.

The only restriction I had was no driving for 2 weeks. I thought it was more to do with the pain meds :confused3 I felt great about a week out of surgery, so a 2 hour car ride wouldn't have bothered me at that point.

Wow!! You had a really nice OB!!! Mine said no driving for SIX WEEKS!!!! After about 4 weeks, I had horrible cabin fever and decided I really needed to go to Taco Bell (btw...I HATE Taco Bell) to get a taco. Of course, my dh had the phone in his hand threatening to call my doctor if I left. I was so mad, I told him HE could have the next baby!!

I thought my six-week ban from driving was standard practice, but I guess not!!!!

OP.....I think if you feel fine, you are probably fine.

My OB knew that I was a single mom with no one around to do anything for me. I had to be able to drive to get to the store, etc. I did not do a lot of driving. I did what had to be done and went home.

I had no problems after my C-section. I felt great after about two weeks. I went back to work full time after 6 weeks. After 4 weeks, I painted my kitchen. :goodvibes I will say that my recovery from a hysterectomy was not as easy. It took me a lot longer to bounce back.

I've never had a c-section so can'rt help you there but had to congratualte you on that gorgeous baby!!! Just beautiful! God bless him.

Holy crap, If I couldn't drive for 6 weeks I'd be SCREWED! :scared1: I get cabin fever horribly and DH went back to work this week!

My OB said I can drive after I'm off my pain meds (which I am) and when I can turn the steering wheel as far as it will go in both directions and slam on the breaks with absolutely no pain. I haven't tried it yet... because baby + carseat = way too heavy for me right now... so I just wait on DH to get home right now and he drives. :thumbsup2

Congrats on that beautiful baby!!!

Thank You! :goodvibes

No answers or experience.

Just did not know the baby had arrived! Congratulations!!

Lucas is a beautiful baby boy (are baby boys allowed to be beautiful? If not, you know what I mean.) How are you doing? Aww...I'm just so excited for you, Patsy!! And you are going to WDW? That is so cool!! Does the dog love and protect the baby? Geez... how did I miss his birth?? Enjoy, they grow up so fast!!!

I think he's allowed to be beautiful. :thumbsup2 I won't tell his daddy though, just in case... :rotfl2:

Yep, he's here... they induced me at 39 wks thinking he was 8lbs-ish... He was 9lbs 5oz. and after 16 hours of labor my OB figured out he wasn't going to come naturally and I got to have a joyous c-section. :headache: I'm doing alright, super excited to go to Disney in October. I had to BEG my DH to agree to go. :rotfl:
Dog has figured out if he torments baby he gets attention... so he steals Lucas' socks and comes back with a toy! :headache: We're working on that.

Personally I wouldn't go. Are you talking 4 hours? 2 hours each way? Where's the baby going to be? Bringing the baby along too?

The blood clot thing is what they worry about. But I always thought if you are just laying around at home don't you have the same risk?

But the seat belt was uncomfortable for me. I have had 3 c-sections and each time I recovered more quickly but still I think first timer- I would skip the drive.

And CONGRATULATIONS on the baby!

I'll admit I never thought of the blood clot thing, but like you said.... isn't it the same risk as sitting on my butt here at home?
I sat through "The Taking of Pelham 123" Saturday night not thinking twice about it...

I've been out a lot- I can't stand to sit around the house!- and the seatbelt has never bothered me. Where my incision is, my very deflated belly covers. I can't even see the incision- I make DH keep an eye on it for me because I can't figure out how to look at it due to it's location. :confused3

Thanks! :)
( Lucas would be going with us. )

Congrats on the new baby:goodvibes

What a cutie Patsy! How is Rink taking to him? We had a Himalayan cat when the girls were born, she actually turned into a sweetheart when she saw that she wasnt' the "baby" anymore. I think Scruffy would have major issues if a baby came into our household now!

Let's see: C-Section #1, we lived 45 minutes from the hospital, so I rode 45 minutes 4 days after she was born. I was driving within two weeks, no problem. My OB said "Take it easy, don't overdo it". About two weeks after she was born, we went for a 'ride' around CT and MA for a day and spent about 6 hours in the car, though we did get out and go to lunch, walk around some shops, etc.

C-Section #2, we lived 30 minutes from the hospital, so I had that ride two days after he was born. He was born on Tuesday, and I started driving around town on Friday with no problems at all.

Oh, and I never took percoset after the the first day either time, so maybe it was just me.

I think that if you want to take a 2 hour trip each way riding in the car, as long as you are comfortable and take a break a couple of times to walk around you will probably be okay. Judge it based on how you are feeling that day.
