Ladies - Tank tops for summer?

I am searching for a really good heavy-weight ribbed tank top. Not just for summer, because I live in these things! Sometimes underneath layers in Winter.

I am wanting one that is ribbed and stretchy. A cotton, woven with something like nylon spandex. I like them to fit more snug to the body. But def. not the athletic stretchy poly/nylon fabric. Not what you would call 'compression'.

I have bought the WalMart tanks. But, now they have gotten so thin.

I have even looked online at the upscale designer department stores. But I am not sure I am seeing what I am looking for.

do any of you girls know where I might find such a thing?

Lululemon might have exactly what you're looking for.

Try Nordstrom. I only shop their sales because they're way pricier than I like to spend. I follow a blogger called Schaefer Told Me To. She posts a lot of cute things and always highlights sales and markdowns. I've gotten gorgeous dresses from Nordstrom for $32 bucks and I get tons of compliments thanks to her suggestions. I need inspiration to shop, lol! The quality of their clothes can't be better!
Do you have a blog link? TIA :daisy:

About 10 years ago I got some from WalMart (of all places) that are STILL holding up; thick, color still vibrant and not stretched out. And it isn't like I'm easy on them either, I'm pretty hard on my tanktops. I've never been able to find them again - they were in the jrs section and I still look for them if I'm at a WalMart for any reason. I've also gotten some from Kohl's over the years, various brands, that have held up well. They aren't as long as the ones I've had from WalMart, but if you have a Kohl's close to you, it might be worth checking out.

Yep, I still have a few older ones (not TEN years!!!), and while old, they are still thicker and holding up better than the thin cheap crappy ones that they are selling now.
You know JUST what I am hoping to find!

Try Maurices.
2nd for Maurices!! LOVE their tanks-Lightweight but not see through and higher armholes even on larger sizes so it is NOT gapping there. My DD and I have longer torsos too, and these are longer tanks so they don't ride up when sitting down. I have one in nearly every color and 2 each in grey and black LOL. I also love their cami's for layering (have most colors of them as well.

Walmart quality has significantly declined from 10 years ago. I have finally worn out my tanks from there. I got the most excellent sandals/boat shoes at Walmart 15 years ago-wore them out (straps finally wore through) a few years ago. Wish I'd known they weren't gong to be carrying them anymore because I would have bought extras!

They used to be great, but every one I have tried in the last few years is see-through. I have a large chest and you can always see my bra (even if its skin toned) because there's light shining through the upper portion of the shirt. (Basically even though the neckline is high enough to cover, you can completely see my cleavage because the shirt is so thin.)

I like the length and fit, but I live in the south and want a tank top that can be worn alone without the sunshine revealing everything.
I get mine from Woman Within. They are plus size, but they go down to a medium. They are thick enough to wear alone, even down in the South.

Hey, I am wanting to look at the new Weekend Ribbed Tank from Talbots.
I just checked the web-site for woman within, and their ribbed tank doesn't seem to have any stretch/spandex. All cotton!

Thanks you all!

I like Lands End for tanks. Wide straps, not see-through, and can be worn on their own or as a layer.

Here you go: $6 each. 12 colors. I have several of these, and they have held up for years now; no fading or shrinkage, and the fabric is nice and thick. I'm not normally a Sears shopper, but I stumbled on these one day when I was buying school uniforms for my son, and I have to say they are the best cotton ribbed tanks I've ever found.

How about Kohl's? I have a bunch of their tanks from last year that I layer under almost everything.

I have a bunch I love that are Jockey brand that I got at the outlet store, but apparently the style I like has been discontinued. My other go-to places would be Kohl's or Old Navy.

Another vote for Old Navy. I have tons of ribbed tanks and none come close to the ones from Old Navy. They have just enough of a different shape to them that they are super flattering. I don't ever feel like they ride up and they are thin enough to be comfortable but thick enough that they are not see through.

Nordstroms- their house brand isn't expensive and they seem pretty much bomb proof. Not ribbed and supposedly underwear, but not thin either.

I had a bunch of ribbed ones from lane Bryant, but I don't know what size you are.

And check REI- there are several brands that are made out of pretty utilitarian fabric. Columbia is my fall back brand for that sort of thing. I don't like their technical gear much but their basics are usually pretty awesome and practical.
