Has your doctor discussed endometriosis with you?

HUGE HUGS to you!!!

I can't really offer any insight, but I'd like to send my best wishes your way. FWIW I don't think my first thought would be cancer with the symptoms you've mentioned.

I have adenomyosis (sp?) where the menstrual lining grows into the uterine lining instead of out and that can cause the walls to be thicker.

Hugs! :grouphug: Hope all turns out well. Please keep us posted!

I got told that on my last yearly, but my baby is just a little over a year so she said nothing to worry about yet, she'll check it later...maybe it is just extremely slow going down. I would think if cancer were on her mind, she'd be calling me back in, but she didn't. She never indicated to me any reasons why it can be a concern... :confused3

Thick uterine wall can mean anything. It could be fibroids or endometriosis. It could be due to hormonal changes as you age. It also could be cancer. However, there are a lot of OTHER things it could be as well. Not everything 'female' is cancer. Can you get your appointment for the biospy moved up for your peace of mind?

Could be fibroids. They grow in and on the uterine wall and can be either inside or outside. They can affect your cycles too, usually making them heavy. I had a few weird periods and went to the dr. one time, but didn't get diagnosed w/them until I was trying to conceive. I didn't have a biopsy though, just some superduper ultrasound. This was about 7 years ago, so I'm sure the medical technology might be different.

I think it's probably a good sign that your first appt. was 2 months ago and your dr. isn't demanding that you get a biopsy done NOW.

Can you call and just ask your dr. what some possible causes could be?

:grouphug: I know the waiting and the not knowing are tough. Hang in there!

Frist off, to you - this is always kind of scary to go through. I'm not sure from your post but it sounds like they want to do an endometrial biopsy (the lining of the uterus)? I've had one done before. The lining of the uterus is related to hormones, so if your hormones are off, sometimes the lining can be thickened. They need to check it to make sure it is not cancerous, since "endometrial hyperplasia" can be a precursor to cancer. It doesn't mean you have cancer necessarily, they just want to be sure everything's ok, expecially where you've had bleeding.

You can look on www.webmd.com under endometrial biopsy (or whatever other type of biopsy they may have told you) and it should give you information on the procedure. Hang in there, as hard as it is to do these types of tests, they're necessary in order to get a quick handle on things. Good luck, and keep us posted.

I had "strange" bleeding a couple years ago for 31 straight days!! :faint: Turned out to be fibroids of which I still have. However, the bleeding is under control because I went back on the birth control pill.

I had to have a DNC (I believe that is the correct terminology) which cleaned me up and then my doctor gave me the choice of depo or birth control pills. I chose depo at first because I thought a shot every 3 months would be cool. However, it DID NOT control my bleeding AND I lost some of my hair! :guilty: :( After another visit to the doctor I asked to go on the pill and it's the best decision I've made since.

Some of what you mentioned sounds like things I was going through. It could be fibroids, ask your doctor. Does it hurt to pea or do you just bleed constantly? Different size fibroids cause different symptons. I'm not a doctor, so please don't take this as a diagnosis. I'm just giving you other factors to hopefully calm your nerves.

Keep us posted okay!

Blessings,

Denise

PS
Now that I really think about it, I was told that I had a thick uterine wall also....fibroids! ;)

I'm having a similar problem to yours.

And I've been on edge since the ultrasound last Friday. The ultrasound tech wouldn't tell me anything except for the fact that she could see what my problem was. Unfortunately, my doctor has to go on vacation and doesn't have time to either meet with me or talk to me about the findings on the ultrasound. She won't be available for my biopsy until January 4th.

The doc did tell me when we originally met that if the uterine wall is thick that it's a little more difficult to find and biopsy any cysts. In that case, they generally do a D&C under general anesthetic to be sure they get everything. If the uterine wall is not thick, they can usually do the ablation in the office with minimal pain and recovery.

You may well have fibroids or endometriosis. Don't read any farther into the ultrasound without the biopsy--because they really can't tell anything without the biopsy.

If it makes you feel any better--you're not going through this alone. I've had awful thoughts and have been really scared about the situation. When I've told the people who are close to me about what's going on, they seem to be dismissive. I don't know if it's just because it's that time of the year or if they just don't comprehend what we're going through.

Hugs to you. I know how you feel. The best that you can do is try to focus on everything else in your life and not think about it right now.

Happy Holidays...PM me if you just need a shoulder.

Firstly, banish those nasty thoughts!

Many things can and do go awry that are NOT the big C! Especially when near the menopause years!

I have had the same thing happen to me on and off for the past 10 years...still not in Menopause! Thickening of the Uterus lining is a hormonally triggered issue. Usually caused by too much Estrogen and the lining just keeps building up and not sloughing off as it should during a menstrual cycle hence the prolonged bleeding. First time it happened to me I had a 3 month period with only the occasional break here and there for a day or two..I was diagnosed with 'Adnometous Hyperplasia (sp???)' and put on the BC pill to reverse it. They medically reverse it as IF LEFT UNTREATED and ONLY if left untreated it can possibly lead to problems.

You don't have long to wait for your biopsy so please, stop worrying?? It's a really common ailment for us women!

Ok take a deep breath. If doctor thought it was cancer you'd probably be getting the biopsy doen pretty quick. I have had 2 endrometrial biopsies done. Firts one was done in my late twenties when I was having trouble conceiving and they discovered endrometriosis at that time, that was an in office procedure. I had another one 2 years ago because of sever bleeding...7 weeks very, very heavy. Thick uterine walls. Biosbsy was done in the hospital, nothing wrong, but a lot of buildup (if that is the proper wording) on the uterine walls. Scheduled a D & C....and so far so good.

What you're describing isn't screaming "cancer" to me.

You areion the menopausal years..lots of changes happen in opuor "female" parts during those years!!!

Sounds more like fibroids or endometriosis to me. Your doc sounds like she's on top of it. I'd be a little concenred just on general principle because I hate to have stuff done "down there", but I don't think I'd be thinking cancer.

I have no suggestions, I just wanted to come give you some hugs

I will keep you in my prayers!!
