I don't think it's the same. It is a low dose bc. Funny thing, I was experiencing more side effects with the low dose than the higher dose bc! That is so strange to me. I was wondering if anyone else had the same experience.

Microgestin sounds a lot like the what was in Micronor which was a progestin-only pill.

I had no side effects from it with the exception of two pregnancies.

I did have side effects on Mircette and some other one that starts with an A. They were very mild compared to what I got with the higher dose ones. I'm just one of the BC-sensitive people, which is was landed me on the Micronor.

microgestin is actually generic loestrin. i've been taking it for several years, with no side effects, and it works well for me, even though i've had gastric bypass surgery. there is a concern that wls patients don't absorb medications as readily as most other people, but i've never had an issue. i had to go and double check, but yep, i'm taking microgestin, generic for loestrin. i've been on loestrin since 1989 (except for the time i went off of it to get pregnant, then while i was pregnant), so obviously, it works, lol. i hope your dr. can find something for you that doesn't have side effects, OP.

I think I took that...not sure. If I did, I took it after having my baby and had lots of problems with breakthrough bleeding and headaches.

I am on it currently, and have been for three years since DD was born. Obviosuly, it is workign well for BC, as we don't have another...LOL.

As a PP said, it is a generic. I haven't had any side effects. i did gain a minimal amount of weight, but that was only for the first 2 months after DD was born, and I think some of it was due to my pregnancy (only gaining 15 lbs and losing 20 after birth) as well as hormones after pregnancy, and finally I had to have a blood transfusion after DD was delivered. I only gained 10 lbs, so I wasn't shocked to see the gain.

The only downside I have had, is that if I miss a day's pill or two days (accidently left the pack at home when visiting my in-laws for the weekend and misplaced the pack when we moved....) is that some minor bleeding will start. Usualy if I remember to catch-up on the pills (I know not reccommended but I do it anyway) then it will stop, the bleeding is minor.

Periods on the pill only last two days for me and then get scant--light-- and then stop.

I've been on it (or the name brand (Loestrin) for years. Short periods, minimal cramping, no accidental pregnancies. But, OP, there's a reason why there are so many different kinds of BC pills. If you're not happy on it, ask your doctor about alternatives. There are lots of variations, and you'll probably find one that works better for you.

I've been on Micronor for a year and a half, what comforting words,hehe Well, it is VERY time sensitive, you definitely cannot take it late.

I used a triphasic pill for three months when I could determine that the side effects I was having was due to the triphasic pills and then saw my doctor and asked to be placed on somethign monophasic.

I have used four types of monophsic pills throughout my time being on BCPs (11 years). I started out on one in college, then lost insurance coverage due to age (on my parents insurance). So I went to the county health department and saw them for a few years, then I went to my OB who put me on another kind (complained about those) and then got on the Microgestin.

If something is not working for you, you can change.

I was on the triphasic for 10+ years prior to changing to this one. What were your side effects on that one? I probably had some and it didn't even register. You get so busy taking care of others that a few things here and there don't hit your radar until they start really adding up and you take the time to connect the dots!

I kept having breakthrough bleeding at each change of hormone level with the tri's. For the first month, I thought "No biggie, my body has to adjust. " but it kept occuring --each month I was on them. Like wear a pad for a day or two kind of flow -- VERY annoying. I also felt queasy and my body was tender. So after three months, I went to my OB (or maybe I was with the health dept then) and told them that they just weren't working out and I wanted to go back to a low dose monopahsic.

I went on BCPs in the first place to control iregular/heavy when they did come periods. My final moment was when I missed a week's worth of classes in college, because I could not leave the house, much less walk around my house without having to go to the bathroom all of the time during my period.

I was always worried though that once I stopped taking BCPs, my periods would go back to being haywire. Surprisingly, when I stopped to try for our daughter, my periods were every 28 days and I was able to get pregnant after 3 months of trying. However, I stay on them because another child is not in the cards at the moment (husbter and I think maybe next year to try for #2) and I don;t want to chance wonky cycles again.

I have been on microgestin for 13 yrs....no problems. they are good ones. I actually take the pill continuously for migraine help.
this pill was great for periods too....it was very light when I did have it....now I don't have any

oh...also these are pills where the amounts don't change over the month...its the same amount each day...I needed that for headaches

I looked at the package...they are norethindrone acetate and ethinyl estradiol....if that helps
