Ladies...need bag suggestions please!!

For those of you who do use Vera Bradley.... have you had issues with the straps pilling your shirts? I was so bummed out when I realized this was happening during our last trip:sad1:

I use a hipster and I carry other Vera bags daily and have not noticed any pilling. I used a Lands End backpack during my last Disney trip and one of my tshirts was pilled at the bottom, where the backpack hit.

It was a Disney shirt... maybe the issue is the material Disney uses...:scratchin

Also has anyone noticed issues with them not being good with water...I know my coach bags are some what Water resistant but the Vera bags wouldn't seem to be good in rain or water rides...Any experiences with this???

Definitely not water proof! Some people scotch guard their purses, but I don't know how well that works. I've had my Vera bags get pretty damp when it rains and I don't have an umbrella.

This trip I used an Overland Donner. I loved it! No pilling b/t the "girls", no shoulder strain. The front flap has a hook/string where I put a Vera Bradley ID holder that held my kttwc, etc. Also in the front flap were many organized areas for lipstuff, tissues, notepad, etc. There were two side openings that held the 16.9oz water bottles well (though a little heavy at the start of the day...). The inside had a small separator where I kept wipes, bandaids and packets of aleve. Then the bigger area is where I kep my camera.

You can shop around for a good price on these. Mine actually cost $10 from a holiday sale on the Overland site (thanks to another DISer's post :) )

The picture of it on the manequin on the above link makes it look huge, really it was the size of a medium purse.

They're on special at 6pm.com occasionally, too.

Oooohhh.... I wonder if that is it.....hmmm. Eventhough we wear disney T-shirts almost every day - the shirts themselves are from different collections (organic, disney store, disneyworld, etc).... but it could be!

I almost bought a Vera Bradley cross-body bag (I think it is called a shoulder hobo bag or something like that) on clearance at Marshall's. It is just the right size, shape, and length for me, and has just the right amount of organization without having too many zippered compartments to deal with. I think the fabric would be very comfortable against my skin in the hot weather, but I really think I need something more water-resistant, like a nylon bag. I have a Baggallini cross-body bag that is a little too small for what I need to carry (and is way "too organized" for Disney). I bought a nice Baggallini nylon tote yesterday at Tuesday Morning for $20, and this bag would be perfect if the straps were long enough to wear it cross-body. I'm concerned that it will become uncomfortable being worn on the shoulder all day like a purse.

Has anyone seen a good cross-body bag (similar in style to the Vera ones some carry) that is made of a water-resistant material like nylon? Some pockets and zippers are okay, but I need something with a fairly large, cavernous compartment for accessing items quickly. A pocket or two for water bottles would be great, too? Does something like this exist?

Hmmm... I would love to know that too!! Still bag searching.....:surfweb:

I used the Vera Bradley Betsy bag on our October trip ... and loved it. It allowed me to carry my DSLR and extra lens, wallet, ponchos/rain gear and other assorted necessities. :thumbsup2

Did you find any issues with the Vera Bradley pilling your shirts? I keep hearing how many Dis'ers love their VB bags, but I am nervous to try again....

Well, I ended up buying the Vera Bradley bag afterall. I went back to Marshall's to reconsider, and it was marked down even more to only...$7!!!! I looked it up, and it's called the Cargo Sling Bag. The strap is adjustable and can be worn either as a shoulder bag or cross-body bag. It's not the color I would have chosen for summer (brown with yellow and orange details), but how could I pass it up at $7? I'm not even sure that I'll bring it to Disney (mainly because it's not water-resistant), but it's still a contender. Why is finding the right Disney bag so hard?

I boughtt a heys brand(you know the luggage)cross body purse. It is totally water proof.Holds a ton and is easy to get into without taking it off.I even wore it on rides,it fit under the bar on the rides even.I also bought a coach cross body for more dressy days. The heys is cute black with white polka dots, but doesnt go with all of my clothes!I call them my park purses! What do you do with the backpack when you go on rides?

When I would carry a backpack into the parks, I would just take it off and put it either on my lap or on the floor in front of me when I went on rides (depending on the ride configuration). My DH would carry a larger backpack, and would often leave it in the stroller when we went on rides (we wouldn't leave a wallet or anything valuable in it). Now that our kids are out of a stroller, we'll have to pack more lightly!

no I didn't :confused3

I am wondering if it is just me, :lmao: Afterall - if VB bags did this they would not have the number of fans!

Thanks for the recommendation... will look it up :thumbsup2

Starting to lean towards having DH wear a backback and I can go purse free!! But I hate to be like, I need "x", or I need "y" and have him get all crannky at WDW.... oh the dilemma

The last time I went , it was just me and my grandson. I wore a fanny pack, and it was a livesaver. Also, b/c we were on a tight budget, I took a hipster/sling style bag. We froze our bottled water the night before and packed sandwiches and chips in those gladware thingys, plus a few snacks. It was great!

I used the Baggallini Messenger Bag which I really loved. It didn't do anything to my shirts and it was really comfortable. I wore it cross shouldered and didn't have to take it off to get in or out of it. I could wear it on ride by swing it around to the front. Plus I bought it in a dark brown color and DH carried it when necessary as well. It is made of nylon so it held up well on the water rides and in the rain.

I have used the Baggallini and the Overland Donner bags. I like them both, but I prefer the Donner. The Bagallini hurts my shoulder if I am at the parks all day.

For our trip last year, I purchased the Wallet Bag by baggallini from ebags. I loved it!! It is small and fits perfect. You actually forget that you have it on. I rode all the rides without having to take it off. It holds more than it looks like it does. Will easily hold sunglasses, wallet, camera, cellphone, lipstick, money, credit cards, KTTW, etc. It has a few zippered pockets inside and one on the outside. I have continued to use it all year. Great for trips to Walmart or the grocery store because you don't have to worry about leaving your purse in the cart. I actually saw some of these bags at Books A Million the other day but I have already purchased another color for my trip this year.

I can suggest a great backpack for you, Sasha – the Excursion backpack from Briggs and Riley. The bag is designed for adventure and offers maximum organization. The bag weighs just 2.4lbs, so you can comfortably carry it on your shoulders. You can use the main compartment to pack your ponchos and other stuff. It also has separate pockets for cell phone, iPod, etc. Take a look at the bag and see if you like it.

It is nice looking... but a bit above my disney bag budget :( Thanks for the link though - I appreciate it :)

+1 for Briggs and Riley. I just love the simple elegance and functionality of their bags. A little pricey – maybe – but absolute value for money especially considering their no questions asked lifetime warranty.
