Ladies... Mini Pill?

I recently had to be switched from the pill to the mini pill (a few high blood pressure readings).

I've never used it before, what are your experiences with it?

I took it after I had DS and I broke through constantly. If I didn't take it at the exact same time, down to the minute practically, I was breaking through. Stopped taking it fairly fast.

Yikes! Was that your only BC method?

Well, I was under the impression that the mini pill was the backup because I was breastfeeding and therefore it was unlikely I'd get pregnant anyway

I've been taking it for 10 years now, no problems at all. My mom had breast cancer so I needed an estrogen-free pill. Yes, you must take it at the same time each night - if you're moe than 3 hours late it counts as a missed pill. The only side effect I've had is a shorter cycle - I'm at about 25 days instead of 28.

As with the poster above, i take the mini-pill due to a family history of breast cancer.
However, unlike the other posters i dont have periods at all. YEAAYYY

Huh. Never heard of the mini-pill for woman with a history of breast cancer. My gma died of breast cancer and my mother has had it twice.. yet I took regular birth control for years.

I was put on the minipill after DS. I didn't like it. Only took it a few months. Obviously I didn't do very well at replacing it with another form of birth control, either...

Thanks the responses! My other options were the shot or an IUD. But I've never had any children, so my obgyn didn't recommend the IUD.

I think they made some kinda link between high levels of oestrogen and breast cancer.
For the same reasons, anyone with a history or family history of breast cancer shouldnt be given HRT for the menopause

Sorry, but were you using any other methods? We always use condoms and I just want to get all the info about people getting pregnant on the mini pill.

I took it for about 3 weeks after DD was born. It totally tanked my milk supply, and made me have what I can only describe as "murderous urges" so I got off of it pretty fast.

I had constant bleeding while on it, I couldn't deal with that.

Been on Micronor for a year and a half, it's been great! But of course, every single woman is different and will have varying experiences. You do have to take it on time every single day, or else it;s effectiveness goes down GREATLY.

I was also on Micronor during the years I was having kids. I never had any problems at all. I only switched back to the regular pill b/c I got panicky about the possibility of having an "accident". I was very good about taking it at the same time every day-and I always took it in the morning.

No, other methods. My GYN at the time never told me I should have. I did take the pill everyday but probably on weekends I missed my time by an hour. I was never told then that I had to take the pill at the EXACT same time everyday. When I changed GYNs, the new one freaked that I was on it for birth control especially that I hadn't been given the warnings.


Other than that, I did love that pill. I had absolutely no side effects from it.

I've been on Micronor while b'feeding and never had any side effects (well, except for an oops pregnancy ). I weaned my ds at 11 months because my supply couldn't keep up with demand. I was going back to the OB in a month and figured that it would be safe to take until then. Well, needless to say during that month we managed to slip one past the goalie. I remember the OB commenting during my first pre-natal visit "Oh, you were on micro-NOT." Youngest dd is a total blessing in our lives, so I'm very happy things happened the way that they did, but the initial shock of the pregnancy was a little tough.

Yeah what she said ( mine are 20 months apart though).

After #2DS I made absolutely sure that I never forgot, even when we went back home for a trip I remembered to adjust with the time change so I was still taking it at what would be the same time ( took it at 10pm at home, so took it at 9pm when visiting family).
