My current doc is a male. But I have had a wonderful female doc as well.

It doesn't matter much to me as long as they are terrific.

I also think you should have an "Other" category what if your doctor's name is Pat and you just can't tell? :lmao:

:lmao:

Female. I can't begin to fathom having any male other than hubby down there. Fine for those who don't mind it, but I'm not one of them. Mine must be female. I absolutely adore my current gyn. She rocks!

I love that if there is some sort of "feeling" that I am trying to describe to her, she knows exactly what I am talking about because she has the same parts and has probably had the same pains etc.

I usually have female doctors. I do not like going to a male dr. for anything!

I had one male gyno and he was absolutely horrible! He did not understand anything I said. I had a cyst the size of a golf ball on my ovary and he said the pain was "just in my head." When I had it removed surgically, he finally admitted that he was wrong. Unbelievable!

Female. She was the first gyno I went to when I was 15 and I just really, really like her. As long as I live in this area, I'll go to her. I do think I prefer having a female gyno, but wouldn't mind a male GP.

I always request a female doctor, whenever I have to find a new one (I've had a few move to more distant locations with my HMO). I want someone who knows what it's like to have those exams done to them, so they'll be a bit more understanding.

I've only had 1 bad experience with a female. She was a midwife of some kind and was a total witch. She left me with bruising across my abdomen that hurt for 2 full weeks. Thankfully, I got a random survey for her, so I let the HMO know EXACTLY how I felt about my visit with her.

Mine is a man; I had a woman once~ unless she had experienced it herself she didn't seem to "believe" me :confused3.

I like the males better; and I feel weird writing this but men are supposed to look at women; KWIM??? I feel weird w a woman looking at my privates.~ maybe weird for me to feel this way; but it makes sense to me;)

Mine is a male. When I started at that practice, there was a woman and a man. The woman retired..right after I had my last child, and he never got another partner. I trust him and have no problem going to a man. The woman happened to be on call every time I went into labor though so she delivered all 3 of my babies.

Mine is currently a male - he's been my doctor for over 5 years now and I really like him - he was really awesome during my regular visits - but after having a baby I think I want to move and I think I may prefer a female.

My gyn is a male and I love him. Last visit was just a routine pap/pelvic so I agreed to see the nurse practioner (who was female) and all I can say is NEVER AGAIN!!!! She was in there WAY too long, my GYN can be done in 3 minutes flat, it took her that long to get started. She also kept trying to get me to go see this compounding friend of hers who would "get me the nutrients I needed"......totally bad experience all the way around. I told the girl at the desk that I would only make appointments to see the doctor from now on and that I did NOT like the NP. She was almost lecturey with me, and my doc is always so nice and funny.....can't believe she is someone he would hire to be his back up like that? :confused3

I went to my gyno because my DH is a pharmacist, and hears a lot of "talk" about all the doctors, and says hes the best. He delivered both my daughters. However, getting an appointment with him for your yearly is almost imposible, so I usually end up seeing one of his co-workers, which is a woman. I feel very comfortable with him, but I highly doubt I'd ever go to another male after him.

Yeah, it is weird.

Men are supposed to look at women but other women aren't? Does it say that in the Bible or something? :confused3

Hopefully no doctor looking at your "privates" (I think I gagged a little as an adult woman using that term) is looking at you in a sexual manner, because that would be weird.

I voted female, although I don't see a gynocologist. I use a midwife practice for all my regular gyno care.

I agree--I am much more comfortable with a man poking around me than a woman- I saw one once and was very uncomfortable for the whole visit- much more relaxed when the Dr is a guy.

Some here seem to be somehow sexualizing visiting a gyno in a way. I've never even thought of doing that.

Both! My regular ob/gyn is female, my gynecological oncologist is male. The gender means nothing to me, it's all about the individual person.

Since we've moved, all 3 of the doctors I see regularly are female. The family physician was recommended by several of my neighbors and she hooked me up w/ a female gynecologist. That doctor sent me to a male gynecological oncologist, who said I needed to be seen by his partner, a female, because she specializes in the type of surgery I needed.

And that's how I ended up w/ 3 female doctors. The End

I am very self-conscious so I have always had female OBGYNs if I have any choice in the matter.

When I was pregnant with my daughters I had to have several Level II ultrasounds, the latter couple involving "the wand" :scared1:. There was only a male doctor in the Maternal Fetal Medicine dept, so I had no choice. The same doctor was also on call the night they started my induction. But at that point I had bigger worries.
