Ladies: Ever have a Bartholin's Gland cyst? *UPDATE PAGE 3*

Thanks for the replies.

Apparently my cyst was not infected or abcessed, it did NOT hurt beforehand, and once the doctor cut into the gland, he found it was filled with blood and blood clot, which he then DUG OUT of the gland.

I'm basically upset right now because I have no idea whether he should've even put the balloon catheter in, since the gland/cyst was filled with blood and not fluid or pus. (I don't know this doctor well enough to trust his judgement, and I can't find anything about this on the internet). I'm also thinking that I probably should've just left the cyst alone since it was not causing me any pain or discomfort. And finally, I have no idea what the expect as far as how long I'm supposed to be feeling pain/discomfort from this catheter! The catheter is supposed to stay in for a MONTH! :scared1: I have so many questions, such as, will I eventually not feel any pain or discomfort, as the month goes on? Surely I can't function like this for an entire month. I guess most of my questions will get answered once I call the doctors in the morning, I was just wondering if anyone else had gone through this specific experience before or not.

Thanks again for the replies.

Oh you poor thing! I haven't had the experience because mine is "Star Trek" - where no one has gone before.....

but if the novacaine wasn't working he should have stopped. I volunteered in the ER and helped a patient while having a cyst cleaned out on her butt - and IT HURT! I know she had plenty of pain meds, I watched it go in. What a shame we can't hold onto the doctors...uummm .....parts while they do anything to our parts. It would never hurt then.

Is there a dressing over it so you can at least pee without it burning like crap?
Tell your primary everything. And cry! If you've never cried there before it will send up a red flag for sure.

Seaspray, aren't you grateful you're living in 2007 and not 1907!!!??? Bad enough with our medical technology, but can you imagine what poor women of the last century endured? :scared1:

Hope you're feeling great *fast*! :flower3:

YES! I have had one twice!:scared1:
I would rather have ALMOST anything else ever again!
First time..after absolute agony for about 10 days, it burst

Five years later...(last year??) it came back with a Vengeance. Was in misery for about 9-10 days yet again until finally I took myself to hospital and said "Do ANYTHING" but please, do something!

So..I had the surgery to reopen the gland. It was heaven from the minute I awakened..the scar tissue is still there, but knock on wood...it's not a problem! In worse case scenarios..they remove the gland but things have to be pretty bad for that to happen!

I hope yours goes away and NEVER comes back!

I have an appt at 11:45AM this morning. I woke up in more pain today than I went to sleep in last night, so I really think something is not right. I'm hoping he'll just remove this stupid balloon catheter. :(

Sent you a P.M..
I see you have a Dr's appt...let us know how you make out. You should be feeling some relief by now!:sad2:

I hope that they listen to you and you get some relief!!!

if you really want to just have it over and done with, ask about a marsupialization. mine was an outpatient procedure. i went in at 7 am and left by noon. they did have to knock me out though, but it was so worth not feeling any pain. it felt weird to sit for about a week, but that was it. only pain for the first day and they gave me heavy duty motrin.

Hi everyone:

Thanks again for the support. My DH came home from work and took me to the doctor. I had him come into the room with me this time. He really had a ringside seat. lol :3dglasses popcorn::

Anyway, the doctor first tried to remove some of the saline solution inside the balloon in order to make it smaller and hopefully more comfortable. After he did that I did not feel any better. He decided that he should remove it altogether, since I was in such pain. And by today, I really was in a lot of pain. As soon as he slid the balloon out of the gland, I felt relief. I still have some pain and a LOT of soreness, but I feel like the source of the pain has been removed. My DH said that even when the balloon was empty and when he took it out, it was still fairly large. We feel that the balloon was probably just too large to fit comfortably inside the gland. My DH said the doctor then "squeezed the gland like a pimple" and a little bit of blood came out.

So now I'm home, still pretty sore, but the PAIN is no longer there. I really hope that thing just heals up and I won't have to deal with it again. My gland never was infected or abcessed like everyone else's was (mine was just filled with blood and a blood clot for some unknown reason), so I hope it heals up and goes away.

I'm continuing with the antibiotic and bedrest for another day. Thanks again for all of the replies, experiences, and concern. I really appreciate it :grouphug:

Oh my gosh, I am so sorry you went through all that. I'm glad your PCP saw you immediately and found you relief from pain.

I hope it heals quickly.

I hope you're feeling better by now. I live in absolute dread of getting another one! The only place I was comfortable was sitting in a baththub of hot water. I remember sitting in there trying to read to pass the time and just crying. The novocaine shot was worse even than my kidney stones, and when he put the catheter in I screamed. I was so embarrassed, I'm usually so quiet!

I am glad you got taken care of. I will bet that I have the same thing you do.

Although now that you went in and "they didn't know what it was" kind of thing, has me concerned.:sad2:

I mean what if it is a TUMOR or something. :headache:

Rest, relax and recover!

Terry, wow!  I hope you feeling better soon. Just reading about what you went through made me :scared1:. Take it easy!
