Lacy needs your prayers more than ever now - UPDATE!

Update on Lacy!!

well.. after a lot of talking back and forth with the vets with no so encouraging news we put Lacy in for an IV treatment at the emergency clinic. They were able to drop the pressure in her eye practically by half. :) We had an eye specialist see her in the morning. He looked at head xrays and did some tests on her. He determined that she is suffering from primary acute glaucoma. Basically what this means is the glaucoma is not being caused by another problem like a brain tumor which they suspected!! Plus there is no trace of a tumor on the xrays!! It is a pure coincidence that she started having seizures and had this happen in such a short time frame. Anyway.. they said she has more than likely lost the sight in her right eye. They did examine her left eye and said that she has developed glaucoma there too but it is so early that we should be able to treat it by giving her eye drops every day for the rest of her life. They said there was a small chance she could regain some of the use of her right eye if this was caught early enough. If not, it will more than likely have to be removed since it will become infected. It's too early to tell right now. I should know more in about a week. The ironic thing about this is.. if she hadn't had the seizure, this would have gone undetected and she might have gone completely blind. BUT.. the best part of this is.. none of this is life threatening to her! She definately beat the odds on this one!! I'm sure all your prayers and wishes helped more than you will ever know!! Thank you all.. so much!

From another "dog-mom", I'm sending my prayers to all of you. God knows the depth of your love for Lacy and He will keep you all in His loving embrace whatever the outcome.

We will continue our thoughts and prayers for You and Lacy....

Lauri - this is wonderful news. I know what having a blind dog is like and it is not so bad. My last dog lost her sight at the age of 7, but other medical problems resulted in our losing her a few years later. My current dog started losing his sight before he was even 1 year old, and I think he was meant to be in our house because we knew how to handle it. He is almost 9 now and I have to tell strangers that he is blind because to watch him you would never know it. The instincts that dog's possess makes sight a very unimportant sense. Whiskey is the happiest dog in the world and I know that Lacy will enjoy her life just as much, even if she doesn't see so well. Give her a big hug from jojo and Whiskey.

mean laureen, i hope everything works out well for your pup,we lost our airdale last sunday and have been heartsick!

So glad to hear that she is doing a little better! My heart goes out to you guys and I'm glad you have a found a silver lining in this difficult time.

We know that Lacy deserves her own special "pin"!

Thanks to everyone for all of your thoughts and prayers for Lacy.

Right now she's relaxing in her favorite spot ... on the floor under the ceiling fan. Her right front leg is shaved and she looks like she's walking on a Q-tip. :)

Someone the other day told me of a dog in her neighborhood that was blind but gets around great. I think if any dog could adapt to blindness, it would be Lacy. Besides, Reilly (the 1.5 yr old) would probably become her best friend and she'd have her own seeing-eye dog. :p :p

Lacy has to go back on Friday for an exam, and we'll let everyone know how she does with that. Tuesday I have to take her brother Toby (actual brother/littermate) to the vet to be tested for glaucoma, and we'll let you know what the results are from that also.

I just read your post. I am so glad to hear that Lacy is home with you and doing better. As the mother of 4 dogs I know the love and pain you are feeling. I wish only the best for Lacy. It sounds like she already has it, you.

Karen: akacruela- it's not the dogs I go after, it's my kids!

Sorry to be so late with this post, Matt & Lauri! I have been without a computer for quite some time. I knew Lacy would be ok from the amount of prayers everyone was dishing out, I just scrolled down each page looking for the update that said she was doing better, LOL! We DIS folk know how to pray up in here!!! :)
