Labor Day Cruise - is that crazy?

We are thinking of doing a short 3-4 day cruise Labor Day weekend in 2017. I realize that is hurricane season, so are we nuts to go at that time?

Does anyone have any experience with cruising at this time of year?

Thanks!

We are doing one this year over Labor Day so I'll let you know after we go. I heard hurricane season is quite a few months and people still go so dont worry too much about it.

Disney is not going to put you in danger. Worst case scenario, your trips leaves a day late or they ultimately cancel. Get insurance, and be flexible in your planning. Your trip might get changed, port order might get reversed or a port stop might get canceled. Or there's no hurricane and all goes according to plan. If we all planned our trips based on "what if scenarios," there's a good chance we'd all be sitting at home and never travel.

We sailed the week before labor day last year. We had a close call with Tropical Storm Erika being forecast to hit Port Canaveral right as we were embarking, but the storm fell apart before coming that far north. The weather ended up being beautiful for us and we're taking another August cruise this year, but we definitely have trip insurance!

I'm booked on this Labor Day and next. I live in South Florida and cruise often, and have never had issues cruising in the Fall...best prices, and less crowds. The ship will go around any potential storms...though I never personally experienced it.

No, not crazy at all. I live on the gulf coast and have been to WDW a few times and never had an issue. Doesn't mean there won't be one but if you didn't travel because something might happen you would never travel. if you're booking airfare travel insurance may not be a bad idea (although I have never gotten it and probably never will - it does't mean I recommend that) but Labor Day is pretty cool....HOT, but "cool".

Thanks, everyone! The prices are great for that time of year. Hoping to convince my husband that we won't be lost as sea. :)

I appreciate the quick responses!

I cruised the Eastern Caribbean that week in 2013 and had perfect, no rain, weather the entire time.

Did our first in 2011 just after Irene passed through the area and a 7-day finishing the long weekend last year. A great week to sail (prices drop off for the fall that week) and can still get a cruise in before the kids are back to school. Only drawback if spending time in FLA prior or after is the heat and the long weekend flight prices if finishing that weekend. Remember the hurricane season technically runs through to November, so anything is possible but as PP's indicate, Disney will sail around a storm wherever possible or change ports need be (in 2011, we were the first to dock Castaway after Irene and even then we were delayed a day and that was still in question though we did do on what was scheduled as our sea day).

We almost always cruise on or near Labor Day. It's been the cheapest time of year for us and we don't worry about hurricane season because a) it's half the year and b) we live in Florida. If we didn't vacation during hurricane season we'd be missing some of the best times to cruise, weather- and price-wise!

We now live in FL but before moving here 2+ years ago we regularly visited WDW over Labor Day. Never a problem with the weather (except for temp/humidity issues).
