Hi there,my first post so be gentle!!!
Thinking of booking to stay in La quinta inn next year, but am unsure how close it actually is to the big disney playground!
Also would like to know if anyone would reccommend it,or am i best staying in pop century (budget is an issue)
Thanks.

I've used La Quinta Lakeside on a number of occassions, usually when booking through hotwire.com . IMHO they are a perfectly adiquate American Motel style option. They are not luxury, but the rooms I've had have been clean, comfortable and reasonably equiped for the price. The pool area is better than most in it's price bracket and the location is also very good. It's 5 minutes to AK, 15 minutes to any of the other Disney parks using the back entrance into Disney on the 192 ( 2 minutes from La Quinta Inn).

When ever looking at "reviews" of resorts, restaurants etc it's always worth taking into account someone who'se had a substandard experience is far more likely to write a comment than someone whose had an adiquate or expected level of experience. IMHO price paid is a major key for satisfaction at this sort of hotel, I think I've always paid in the area of $35-50 a night for a room here and at that rate I think the resort offers good value, the rooms I've had were always clean and no problems as far as damp etc that seem to have been mentioned in some of the reviews. If I were to get a room that had damp patches etc I would demand I was moved to a better room. If prepay booking from the UK, I would first photo or video the offending areas, then ask the hotel to move me, if that fails get the local agent involved making all parties aware that I had photographic evidence of the health hazard.

If you can afford the upgrade, then staying on Disney is going to give you a much better chance of not having a dodgy experience, however for 2 weeks an extra $50 a night can add up to a pretty sizable chunk that could be put to better uses.

This goes for any hotel in the USA, if you get a substandard room, don't put up with it and moan when you get home, deal with the issue at the time. If necessary demand the tour operator finds you another hotel for the same price. IMHO there is no excuse for sub par rooms or hotels in the Orlando area, there are plenty of decent/adiquate ones and in my experience over several stays at La Quinta Inn Lakeside it's an adiquate hotel if you're paying the correct price for it ( i.e. under $50 per night)

thanks for your advice, did read some bad reviews of la quinta inn,but agree that people very rarely make good comments!i'll be booking it this week!! :wave2:

First point is Virgin sell this hotel as a "Flagship hotel"
We stayed in the La Quinta on our last two stays we had no problems, some of its advantages are location, the exit has its own set of traffic lights so at least you get a turn getting on the 192 highway which can get a bit busy early on this close to the disney maingate.
All the rooms have a full size fridge which in many of the other hotels we have used can be as much as $15 extra per night! they also have a LARGE safe which we found we were putting silly things in just to try and fill it up.
Just one tip for you, near the date of your arrival at the hotel email them and tell them you are soon to be stopping with them and ask can you request a certain type of room. I asked for a ground floor room near the pool which when you are booking is usually at a suppliment, they emailed me back confirming my request no problem.

We stayed here just after it had been taken over by La Quinta. It was a 5 min drive to AK using the Sherberth Road short cut. It was next to a Walgreens (good for downloading digital pictures onto CD for about $3), with a TGI & McDs very close (although if you plan on walking to TGI you do need to be LKinford Christie to cross the road!). The rooms were a comparable size to value resorts at WDW, but with the added bonus of a fridge & a coffee maker. A daily paper was delivered. Towels by the pool so you didn't need to take them from your room. Pool was clean & warm, but with no theming, slides etc. Nice deli counter & Pizza hut within the lobby area.

At the end of the day, the question you need to ask is how long are you spending there? There is nothing to stop you having a down day at ASMo for e.g. & using their pool (take passport to get through barrier & say you're booking in) if that is important to you, but in terms of VFM, it couldn't be faulted.

great to know about the wallgreens nearby,i was wondering what i'd do bout the digital camera-now you've solved that one for me!Thanks

Encouraging comments about the hotel and good tip about emailing for a room location. I will try that one.

I am staying there through Virgin at the end of May so will let you know what I think.

My brother stopped there for ten days two weeks ago, he had no complaints at all.
