KTTW only thing you can pay with on board?

Once again, my searches are coming up with answers to things I already know but not quite what I want to know! I know you can go to guest services and have gift cards applied to use as on-board credit (and that you need to save them in case there is money leftover at the end of the cruise - although I laugh at the hilarity of that possibility). However, my question is - do you HAVE to do that in order to use a gift card on board? Specifically, if my kids have gift cards to use, primarily in the gift shops on-board and at CC - can they just directly use those as payment? Or will we have to add them to our on-board account and just keep track of how much they have used/have left? thx!

You can use the gift cards in the shops. I have given my kids gift cards and they have used them with no problem.

You can use Disney gift cards directly in the gift shops onboard. Not sure about at Castaway Cay.

If you apply a gift card (only) to their specific KTTW card (which you can) once they've reached their limit, there's no more charges allowed.

Does that apply to kids of any age? Even the under 10 (non-Disney-adult) set?

Thanks! Did they use them on-board AND CC? or just on-board?

When you set up your onboard account during your online check in, you will select which cards/people that account will cover. Once onboard, you could change the kid's cards and only have the gift card applied to them, so charges that go against the credit card. That's the way I understand it.

I do know that not all the shops on Castaway Cay are DCL shops.

NM -- I realized that attaching the gift card to the KTTW obviates my question.

Can you still use the KTTW to charge at those? It didn't occur to me that we might need to bring a credit card or cash that day.
No, the non-DCL shops only take credit cards, I believe. They aren't part of the Disney family. They are private enterprises.

If you are cruise before your discount does not apply on the island either only the ship. The staff told me that they don't even get a discount there.

I here you on not waiting to buy on the ship. Missed out because my size was gone later in the week.

I believe the post office on CC only takes cash, not KTTW. When we get our girls hair braided on CC you can pay with KTTW. I'm pretty sure that there are only 2 Bahamian shops on CC, the rest are DCL.

There is no chance I'm giving either child our credit card at CC LOL! But I'll make a point of bringing one for myself.

I guess what I'll end up doing is giving both kids their gift cards, and if they blow it all right away on the ship - that's that. If they still have money to spend at CC, then I'll just have them hand over their gift cards to me to have the remainder applied to on-board credit and use my credit card or KTTW there. (and in either case, I will save the cards until we're home!)

Ultimately, the point is to have my kids take ownership of their souvenir purchases and not ask us to buy them stuff all the time. We've tried other methods to limit spending (like - 1 shirt and 1 toy, or at WDW - 1 thing from each park) but there is always regret, extreme disparity, and bargaining ("he spent $30 and I only spent $22 so I should get another thing" blah blah). The gift card worked so well at Disneyland earlier this year! They were far more thoughtful about their purchases and one didn't even spend it all.
