First time cruiser here. We are leaving on the Wonder on February 12. I have tried to find the answer to these two questions unsuccessfully.

1) Will I need a card to turn on the lights in the stateroom? Just wondering if the updates on the ship affected this, and wanting to plan accordingly.

2) Is there a benefit to having the KTTW card in a plastic sleeve? Will they scan it through the plastic and such?

Thanks for the help!!

You do not use it for the lights. They didn't make that upgrade (I just sailed in Jan). You can put it in a sleeve, but sometimes the plastic is too thick and it won't register with the door. I believe you have to take it out any time you buy something or get on/off the ship. To me the sleeve is only useful if you worry it will fall out of your pocket or you don't have pockets.

Thank you so much! I bought a laynard case for my cards and phone, and was worried it would be more inconvenient than the plastic sleeve. I'll just stick with what I have! Thanks again!

I never had a problem opening the door through the lanyard case. I used the return cruiser lanyard. I always took my KTTW card out when purchasing anything but I guess it would work through the plastic since the door does.

The only time the key card has problems opening the door is if you have two cards in the sleeve.

I have always used my card in the plastic sleeve to open the door or to leave/return to the ship in port. I do have to remove it from the sleeve to give to the servers to cover adult beverages and Palo/Remy charges.

I like the lanyard and plastic sleeve for my KTTW card because I just find it more convenient. It just becomes part of my daily attire, like at WDW when I keep my AP in there. On the cruise, though, it is also a good place for your ID and excursion ticket for when you get off and on the ship and beer card. The only time I put my KTTW card in my pocket is in the evening when I'm dressed for dinner.

I was thinking of buying one of these too...a waterproof one to put my phone in with my card/passport. Is that what you were thinking?

Yes! I actually have a waterproof one and a regular one, just not sure which I'll use. I'm going to use my phone for pictures/Navigator App so I know I'll have that with me. I just think it will be best to keep it all together, even though I'll have to take my card out to open the door. Doesn't seem like too much of a hassle. I feel like having no where to keep my phone would be more of a hassle.
