Krispy Kreme Donuts?

They are an incredible childhood memory for me - Daddy piling all us kids in the car after dinner and going to the KK on Ponce De Leon in Atlanta for some hot ones. Sounds very simple and I guess it was compared to today's world, but as a little girl in the late 50's it was a very special treat. Fortunately we do have one in Athens and my ds15 has been able to grow up with the same treat. There is also a DD but am told they sell more lattes than donuts :rotfl2:

I think the Boardwalk Bakery serves KK's now. We don't go there anymore since the "new management" took over a year ago and ruined the place.

There is a KK next to the CVS Pharmacy on 192, past Old Town on the right hand side...they always have hot fresh donuts and man do we pig out on them!!!

If yall ever have any left over KK doughnuts, you should do an internet search for KK DOughnut bread pudding. My aunt made it about 2 weeks ago and it is better than ANY dessert I have ever had

Don't know if this is true but someone told be that 1 KK glazed has the same amount of fat as a Big Mac. I can't eat either one any more.

Well since this is the INTERNET.

KK glazed= 52g serving size, 200 calories and 12g fat.
Big Mac= 219g serving size, 560 calories and 30g fat.

From what I can tell you may confused the BigMac with the original Cheesburger which does in fact have 12 grams of fat.

I wont get into the debate, cept to say that in the glazed catagory there is only one KKing.

I watched Paula Dean make it on the food channel...went right to Publix and bought a box of the glazed donuts and made it...wish I never had because DH and I polished the entire thing off as our dinner that night....

We did the exact same thing every Thanksgiving night after watching the lighting of the Rich's Great Christmas Tree (before the travesty that now is the Lenox Great Tree--yech!). That was the highlight of the year for me! It kicked off the Christmas season for us. Even after a KK opened on Memorial Drive, which was much closer to our house in Snellville, we still went all the way downtown. This Saturday, I'll stop by the Athens KK as we head in for kickoff; maybe we'll see you there!

Krispy Kreme is just one more thing (added to the prettiest springtime in the world and proximity to WDW) that proves that while God loves the whole world, he must vacation in Dixie.

Gosh its such a georgia thing. When i was a kid we would take the same trip KK after seeing the great tree lighting, ride the pink pig a few weeks late due to teh crowds. When I lived on North Ave it was always special to look out the balcony window to see if they had hot doughnuts now and then walk down past the Fox and get some hot ones... like eating a warm cloud :cloud9:

Mmm, there are two Krispy Kremes near my house (Buffalo, NY). They are so delicious and they are made fresh from this machine that you can watch. Nothing is better than a warm KK glazed donut right out of the oven, with a frosty glass of milk. :goodvibes

On the other hand, I hate Dunkin Donuts.

We just have one in my state.. And its about 45 min from me.. so i don't get to go often!! Which stinks!!

However, we stayed concierge at the B.C. over the last two yrs, and now staying at the Y.C. this yr, and they always have the KK glazed and glazed with chocolate frosting in the lounge free every a.m.!!! Can't beat that! I get my fix that way!! LOL

Poor misguided folks

dunkin donuts are the best because they have cake donuts AND they have the other kind. Nothing like their powdered fluffy donuts!

I grew up a yankee and then became a d*rn yankee when i moved south, imagine my distress when the simple pleasures in life like carvel icecream, dunkin donuts could not be found.

Then, I moved midwest and still can't get DD or Carvel and now i also can't get tastykakes, or cinnaburst gum! Not to mention no Entemmann's cakes either!
The good news is you can order tastyKakes by the case over the internet..yes my freezer is full of them!
I have to rely on hubby to bring me stuff from his trips around the country.

Does anyone know do they still make dresslers cakes? you know frozen food section have sprinkles on them(birthday cakes) loved those, but haven't seen them in ages.

Even DD regular glazed (non cake) donuts have nothing on KK glazed donuts. We need a smilie eating a donut. :teeth:

DD just seems dirty to me. Every one I've ever been in. That dingy yellow color :crazy2: . AND they don't have a HOT NOW red neon sign ;).

MamaQuack

We'll see you there. No lime green though, we'll be all red and black!

Oceana - North Avenue - oh my goodness - I put myself thru GSU working at Undergrand Atl and spent many an "after hour" at Manuels. KK's are such a part of my GeorgiaNess! And,

Demosthenes, come on darling, even the KK's will be wearing black and red on Saturday

I have to agree with you if you're including the DD in Williamsburg, VA. It did seem "dirty" to us, too, when we stopped there several times during our visits, but the ones near us are very good. BTW, why does a donut have to be hot to be good?

It doesn't. It has to be hot to be great, but even cool KK donuts are good.
BTW, I am not an exclusive KK man, but if I have a choice, I alwyas choose KK.
