Kool aid as a hair color

Nope. Not new. We did it when we were younger.

DD 14 wants to dye her tips with red kool aid? Is this new?

My daughter wanted to do the Kool Aid thing the other day, but I think it lasts up to a month and she can't have colored hair for school. Instead, we went to ULTA and they had these wand type coloring kits that easily wash out. I don't know the name of it, but I will check. It was $10.95 each and there were several colors to choose from. She picked purple.

I'd forgotten all about that! :goodvibes

Definitely not new. We did that back in the early - mid 90's.

I did this exact thing when I was a teen back in the 80s! I did a pink Kool Ade strip of hair framing my face. It came out great! :thumbsup2

I had a friend who would do this in high school LOL! I am not sure of the application process, but every so often she would show up with red, purple, or blue hair!

I had never heard of coloring with Kool-Aid! My younger son's hair is currently blue, but he bought a dye. Looks really good!

All the cool kids are doing it, Grandma...get with the program:rotfl:

During Nirvana's 1992 performance on Saturday Night Live, Kurt Cobain had his hair dyed red with Kool-Aid, so, not new at all!

This is not new my tween had tried to dye her hair with Kool Aid but her hair is medium dark brown and nothing will show up in her hair. It really only works if the hair is light colored to begin with.

A friend of mine told me it attracts bees... maybe she didn't do it right? ;)

DS's hair is naturally dark brown. We bleached it blond first, and then the blue color took quite well!

my hair was too dark for it, but my mom tried it!! she was about 55 i guess, in the mid-90's. she had course light gray hair and the pink really took well to it.:laughing:

she had that pink FOREVER!!!

Not necessarily, dd18 just did it about a month or so ago...She has fairly dark hair (at least medium dark brown as you mention above), she did NOT bleach it before hand and it came out nice and red/burgundy and now she can't get rid of it.:rotfl: but it does look nice.

My dd12 did it at the same time, her hair is just a tad bit lighter than dd18's , hers showed up for about a week and then it was gone.

DD18 has dyed her hair since then with actual store bought color (herbal essance maybe?) and the red kool aid dyed streak is still there and still pretty noticeable.

When I was in elementary school in the early 70's a girl in the grade below me had her hair died green every year for St. Patrick's Day. It took MONTHS to wash out.

I did green Kool Aid as a teen. It was great except in the rain. It leaked a little. LOL

If I remember right (I did it mid-90s!) boil the water, add the Kool-Aid, DO NOT add sugar (perhaps that's why one PP's friend said it attracted bees?)

If you want red, Black Cherry works great. My hair was like a medium-light brown back then, worked great.
