After reading another thread, it seems like there have been lots of disappointments at O'hana lately ( at least that have been posted ). We are not traveling until June so, maybe current issues/problems will be rectified.

Curious on peoples opinions/comparisons of the two... It is just myself and my 17 year old daughter... Thanks

I actually love both places. It depends on what you are looking for. Ohana is eat until you drop:goodvibes. Kona is a nice place to relax and have a great meal. IMO you can't go wrong either way!

We had great meals at kona in October. Check-in and service much better than O'hana. Do both if you're staying there. Each is good in different ways.

We went to WDW in September. I went by myself to eat at Ohanas. It was the best meal I have ever had at Disney. I would go if I were you :)

Either is great! I personally LOVE Kona more than Ohana though!

My husband and I ate at Ohana on Monday night of this past week. I was ready to be underwhelmed because I am wary of any restaurant that gets too much hype in the Disney internet community. Well, we couldn't have had a better evening, and both of us can't wait to go back someday!

We had a 6:15 ADR and were seated by 6:25 at a quiet table by the window - which was great since we are a couple with no kids. We received great service from Denise. We have been to Fogo de Chao (another "all you can eat meat" establishment) and I was really annoyed by the constant presence of the servers there. At Ohana I felt like they gave us the exact right amount of attention. They were also really nice about bringing us as much of anything that we wanted without hesitating - something I could not say about Fogo de Chao.

The setting was great - definitely request a table by the window - I imagine it would get hot and noisy if you sit too close to the fire. The food was very tasty - we especially loved the shrimp and the steak. The bread pudding was excellent (and I usually don't like restaurant desserts...I'd usually rather just have ice cream...but the bread pudding was fab). Overall I was really surprised at how much I enjoyed the entire evening. The staff was a lot of fun, very friendly, but not too overwhelming. The food far exceeded my expectations, and when I told my husband that the whole experience cost us less than $30 per person (we have Tables in Wonderland) he thought it was a great deal.

Maybe we just got lucky with everything, but we both loved Ohana and won't hesitate to go back or recommend it to friends.

Thanks for your question, OP! I was curious about Kona since we have not eaten there before and was looking for some input from others. I was getting ready to do a search when I saw your post! :thumbsup2

As for 'Ohana, we ate dinner there last May (first non-breakfast time for us - love love love the breakfast!) and it was, without a doubt, the single worst meal we've ever had at WDW - anywhere. I was so excited to try it after so many people had raved about it here, but everything we were served, with the exception of dessert, was horrible. Most of the meats were overcooked (way overcooked) and the shrimp wasn't done. The salad came out with no dressing on it. We couldn't even bite through the potstickers; I scraped out the filling just to try it. The veggies might as well have been used for baby food they were so soggy and mushy. We left and picked up a flatbread pizza at BCV on our way back to the room. I was so disappointed since I had assured my in-laws that this was one of the "must-do" restaurants at Disney. As it turned out, on our trip, the one restaurant we felt like we gambled a bit on trying was Captain's Grille at YC and it was the best of the bunch. Go figure!

Good luck deciding on your ADRs, OP! I'll look forward to hearing how Kona was for you!

we haven't been to either of them yet...but i have ADRs for both in januay for our 5 day....I am sooooo excited!

Kona is probably our favorite non-signature restaurant in all of WDW. Just WAY better than O'hana. Aside from the normal menu, you can also get sushi from the sushi bar next door at Kona, and the shrimp tempura roll (not raw if real sushi freaks you out like my wife) is probably the best shrimp tempura roll I've had anywhere. Every meal we've had at Kona (either three or four dinners and one breakfast) has been excellent.

We've ate at Kona's once. We were not impressed. Was ok..but not anything special we thought. And we tried it because everybody says it is awesome.

Ohana for supper though...we love it! This is our one must do restaurant every trip for the last 4 years. This last visit a couple of weeks back was the best ever. The chicken was so so good & the meal was tops. Plus, we even didn't have to wait ages to be seated.

We love them both.
I think they are different kinds of restaurants.
We usually lunch at Kona and dinner at Ohana. They are both on our must do list.

We have never eaten at Kona, but LOVE Ohana- we would never give up the chance to eat there! We've been there many times and have yet to be disappointed!

Never been to O'hana, so can't comment.

We went to Kona last week and it was one of the rare disappointments in our line up.

I had the tuna oscar - there was supposedly "tempura crab" on it, but all I found were a couple of tiny bits of fried batter, no crab. The rest of the dish was rather boring. That's the word I used to describe it to my DH, boring. I actually was tired of eating it long before I was satisfied.

DH had the shrimp nood bowl. He felt they really dumbed down the flavors. We both felt that Kona pulled punches when it came to flavors in the various offerings. DH also felt that there was alot of fairly inedible roughage/filler in his dish.

We went out of curiousity, a few good reviews and a menu that looked promising. We won't be back. The taste just didn't deliver on the promise....

I've never eaten at Ohana, and after seeing the check-in lines, I never will!

We LOVE Kona though. It was really good, and it's a must do for us when we go back. :thumbsup2

like both but service much better and you get in at your ressie time best at Kona's. they have good steaks as well. O Hana's is family style and is good but even with ressie we have waited there over an hour and so are aggravated once we finally get in there..food good though.:confused3

We've eaten at both. While the meal was good at Kona, it wasn't anything memorable. Just okay--not grand or bad. However, the meal at O'hana was amazing. It was one of the best meals we had our entire trip. We also loved the atmosphere so much better there.

For breakfast, Kona. For dinner, Ohana. We thought the Ohana breakfast was overpriced for the lack of selection, but the dinner can't be beat.

We enjoy 'Ohana and never miss it but IMHO the food doesn't compare with Kona. Kona is one of our favourite places at WDW.

We love the appetizers and salad at Kona and the Shrimp are quite good but the rest of the meet is a bit overcooked and dry for our taste. Of course, the dessert makes up for a lot.

As for Kona, the teriyaki-steak is my favourite meal at WDW.

Wow, CapnJacksGirl. y'all must have really been having a bad night - have never heard such a terrible review of "Ohana. I'm sure they have "off" nights, but NEVER is EVERYTHING wrong :confused3 . We eat there every time and  it. A few times some of the meats have been dry, but other than that it has been wonderful. The bread, salad, noodles, wings are all great and make up most of my meal, and of course the bread pudding is wonderful. Our wait time has never been long, but we usually are fairly early diners. But, that being said, there's no one restaurant that suits everyone, that's why it's a good idea to try it yourself, not put too much stock in anyone else's experience - except maybe Coral Reef :sad2: ha!!
