We took at break from the Magic Kingdom and took the monorail out to Kona Cafe. We had ADRs and experienced about a 5min wait after checking in. Going to Kona gave us a chance to walk through the beautiful Polynesian Resort, one of the resorts we stayed at on our honeymoon 10 years ago. It was fun to share old memories, see the changes from 10 years ago & take a nice break from MK.
The service was very good and food was excellent. For an appetizer, my husband got the Kona Salad. The salad had blue cheese, almonds & a citrus vinaigrette. This was my favorite salad in WDW, extremely tasty! I also got my own appetizer...Pot Stickers. I highly recommend these as well. This was a great start to our meal, both of these appetizers were delicious and I didn't see these menu items at any other WDW restaurant we ate at
For the main course I chose the Pan Asian Noodle and my husband had the Peanut Chicken. The Pan Asian Noodle was very good, but I preferred my husbands because I love non-spicy peanut chicken (which is exactly how they made it). My husband recommends asking for extra rice instead of macaroni as a side dish.
We finished off with the Macadamia Pie & Fondue. The Macadamia Pie was really rich & had a strong caramel taste, kind of reminded me of a Carmelo bar. It was served with ice cream & would have be SO GOOD if it were warm (maybe request this & see if they will heat it up for you). Since it was served cold, I almost think I enjoyed the Fondue dessert more. It was served with macadamia nut cookies, strawberries, kiwi, coconut & a few more items...along with a warm chocolate dipping sauce. They have all of their desserts on display at Kona, so you can see for yourself what would be most tempting for you!
If the Macadamia Pie had been warm, this would have been a perfect meal! The atmosphere is informal, but it was not loud & the spacing between tables was good. This is a great getaway lunch spot when you are spending a couple days in Magic Kingdom and want a mid-day break, or a good visit if you are staying in any of the hotels in the MK area.
This entire meal would have been $69, but was free using the Deluxe Dining Plan.
