Kohl's cash with a return question

I purchased something for about $50 ($15 kohl's cash, $15 reward, 25% off), paid about $16 total for my item. It doesn't work and we need to return it. What will happen with my cash and my reward? Can I just purchase something else for around $50? I don't want to lose it. The item is defective and my husband doesn't want to exchange.

I believe you can exchange it for something (anything) with the EXACT same original price. If the original price was $49.99, you must find something that is also $49.99 - not one penny off. I've been able to do this before but not sure if the policy has changed.

You will get the money you paid back in the form you paid it (CC, cash, etc..) The Kohls cash and awards will be returned via a kohls cash that is good for 30 days from the date it is issued.

You can also exchange as CalDisney stated. It is very tricky as it must match original price to original price.

Ya when did this change? I just took something back I paid with Kohls cash and also got Kohls cash back that expires in 30 days. Good change!

I earned Kohl's cash on a purchase and they subtracted it from the amount that they would give me back if I just returned my items. I ended up doing an even exchange. We couldn't find anything the first time, so I went back after spotting something online a few days later. The cashier said that they prefer that you stay within the same department on an even exchange, but a different cashier had told me that it could be for anything in the store.

They are super inconsistent with their answers when you go to customer service, so I find it's helpful to have this link on hand.

Here's what I have experienced:
When you return things you EARNED Kohls cash that you have already spent, they deduct the Kohls cash off the top.
When you return things you BOUGHT with Kohls cash, they give you a 30 day Kohls cash as a refund. Good to know if you don't really have anything you need right now...go buy something b4 the cash expires, then return to use later.

Kohl's is like WDW nothing written in stone, depends on who's the MOD, time of day, cashier, and how the wind is blowing....

A few months ago I redid my guest room, new comforter, sheet, and did some Christmas shopping, I had 50.00 in Kohl's cash, so I went to spend it the following week, I pickup some more Christmas items, so I used my Kohls cash, and my 20% off coupon... Once home I realized that I had already bought 1 item so a duplicate and a shirt for my son in law had a black mark on the tail of the shirt, so I went to take the next day... My goodness you would have thought I was trying to change the constitution of the United States....I got so aggravated, that I said I would come back, I went over to visit my mom she lives about a hour away, and had bag in the car still, and took it back to her Kohl's without any problem, as a matter of fact I questioned the girl on the transaction, I thought that they gave me to much money back, between the returns, and exchanges and the other items I bought there... I ended up with 30.00 in Kohl's cash, and 20 ish in cash... and that was after all the transactions... Sooooo
