I am leaning toward buying a Kodak EasyShare camera, seeing as I want to go digital and the EasyShare comes highly recommended. My question is "should I buy just the camera dock for easy transfer to computer?" or would I benefit from buying the printer dock too?"
The paper and cartridge is $25.00 I believe and it said it was good for 40 pictures, is that correct? That sounds like it would get expensive for all the pictures i take.
Would it just be better just getting the camera dock to charge the battery and transfer to PC and then use the printer I got to print the pictures??
Also is one EasyShare better than another?
Thanks again for any advice,

Lory

I got the Easy Share for Christmas last year and I love it. I got the printer dock with mine and it comes in handy for a special picture here or there but we don't print out all of our pictures. For our vacation we found post card paper and printed out our own postcards from our trip. We have found that Sam's is the best place to get digital pictures developed 0.17 a piece.

I have the Kodak Easy Share DX6340. It's a 3.1 mega pixel. I have had it for awhile and love it. I also have the printer dock. Like Megan's Mom said, it's great for those certain pictures you want right away or something special. But for vacation pics and larger quanities, we get them printed else where. About a month ago I just bought a new Kodak Easy Share camera. This one is the LS753 Zoom. It's a 5.0 mega pixel. It is much smaller than the first one I mentioned. This one also has many more settings and the camera seems to be much easier to use. My mom and kisd will share the first one. It's great bacause they both use the same printer dock and the same memory cards. The only difference is they have different batteries. I think you will love them, we do!:D

I have the Kodak Easyshare and I don't have the dock for the camera. You can easily transfer your pictures to the computer with the USB cord that comes with the camera. There is no need for the dock for this purpose. I love the camera and also have my pictures printed elsewhere. You can upload them to Kodak via CostCo and get prints for $.24 or less. Great quality and quick shipment. Highly recommended.

I have the EasyShare with the dock. You really don't need the dock, which I didn't know when I bought it, but it works nicely. The reason I like it is because your camera is charged and ready to go all the time. I am a procrastinator, so the camera would never be charged when I need it, so the dock works great for me.

We bought this camera right before our June trip. Our first digital. We absolutely LOVE IT. So easy to use. Great pix. We have the dock/printer...got a good deal at Best Buy and it was actually bundled together and was basically free.

I've used the printer dock for those pix you just have to have right away. However, took my memory card to CostCo and printed them all off for 19 cents/print.

The dock is great - cuz you can just sit the camera on it - and it is always charged.

The video clips are nice too. My daughter took it to Nascar and got some great pix plus video clips. Best camera I've ever bought. Simple and easy to use

We have a Kodak Easyshare as well, 4.1 megapixels. I use it all the time for work, so I'm pretty good with it even though we've only had it for a few months. I did not buy any docks and have not regretted it. The camera comes with a USB cord that you can use to transfer the pics to your computer.

In addition, I have an Epson printer that we got at the same time as the camera, that prints photos directly. You just pull out the memory card from the camera and pop it into the printer. You can then choose which pics you want printed, size, number, etc. The photos turn out lovely, much better then regular processing for a 35mm camera, IMHO. It works like the kiosks they have at grocery stores, Walmart, etc. I purchase 4x6 Epson premium glossy paper for about $15 for 100 pieces.

The camera only holds about 20 pics without an additional memory card. We bought one of the larger cards that holds up to about 250 pics. The camera comes with a battery charger and battery that takes a couple hours max to charge. it lasts for several hours before you have to recharge.

We bought the Easy Share (4.1 megapixels, I think) right before Christmas and just love it! We have the dock, not the printing one, though. I love that my batteries are charged all the time and plan on bringing it along on our Dec WDW trip. I read somewhere that the ink on pictures you print off at home will last only about 10 years - don't know if that's true or not. I tried downloading and sending right to Walmart, but couldn't figure it out. I go to my local photographer/photo shop. They have a discount plan for frequent users and the quality is so much better than Walgreens.

I got the 6440 last November and I can't imagine life without it!! I will probably never use a film-type camera again! It was so easy to use, the screen is a bit larger than most (which helps with my horrible eyesight) and the picture quality was amazing. I did about three months worth of research before choosing, I went to Best Buy and played with the floor models and I looked at picture comparisons. OfficeMax.com had made a mistake on pricing ($100 in my favor) and so I made the leap. I did get the dock as well, but I have found that out that the dock just isn't needed for trips. It basically stays at home connected to the computer.

The only thing different I will do next year when we go back is get a tripod/monopod (the night pics were next to impossible) and more memory cards (I have 1-256, 2-128, 1-64, but they still weren't enough).

On a side note, I had a co-worker pushing the Canon's, but the screen was too small for me and most people's complaints with Canon's were how easily the screen could be scratched. Considering I'm a clutz, not a good idea. And personally, I didn't like the body-style.

My Sister got an Olympus (which has a great body style) and I had a dicken of a time trying to operate it (and I am NOT mechanically challenged). After we got back in January, I took both mine and her pics and made a DVD and it took me almost four months to "adjust" all of her pics (either coloring was off, or the pic had a lean to it (not sure if it was her or the camera), or it wasn't in focus). And forget about night pics with hers. At least you could see mine!

I love the DX6340. My mother got one early this year. She also bought the printer dock. She only prints some of the pics out with it. Based on the pics hers took, I bought a DX6340 too. I love it. I just got the camera. I download all my pics to the computer. I have printed some out at CVS pharmacy, Walgreens, and recently got an HP 7660 Photosmart printer. It has memory card slots. I can just plug in the memory card and print, nice quality pics. The DX6340 is a nice camera but has ben out for awhile. Ifcost is no object, get the latest greatest camera, but you can find some nice deals online on this camera.

I have the CX4230 2.0 pix. Cheaper side of the fence. I use easyshare software and love it. I also print from Ofoto that is linked in the software and its easy and they come out perfect.

you can check out here at http://www.ofoto.com

I do not own the dock, I do ok without it, but it depends on how often you use your camera. . .

PG :)

I have the Kodak Easyshare DX6490 and LOVE it. It takes phenomenal pictures! It came with the camera dock, which is handy for charging and uploading, but not necessary. USB uploading is easy enough. And card readers are so cheap, too!

I wouldn't get the printer dock. I only print my favorite shots anyway. I use Ofoto.com to print. The prints are inexpensive (something like 22 cents each for 4x6" on sale) and they do a great job printing. The colors are always good. And I never have to leave the house...the pictures show up in my mailbox a couple of days later. <g>

Half the time I want to print an 8x10 and I think the printer dock can't do anything besides a 4x6.

Ofoto is owned by Kodak, so I don't worry that they are a fly-by-night company that will disappear after I've uploaded my photos to them. (What was it that went belly up a while ago, Snapfish?)

If you want to read a lot about digital cameras, try dpreview.com. They even have a Kodak camera owners message board.

I have a Kodak EasyShare - I LOVE it!!! We just got back from our 8 days in WDW with my EasyShare. It did awesome. I have the rechargable batteries, which lasted me about 3 days for each set before I had to recharge them. I took over 500 pictures while we were there, it is a little workhorse!

I also have a printer dock, you don't need it, but I am crazy about scrapbooking, so it is great to print out a few pics here and there. However, for my bigger jobs - like my vacation photos, I go to Walgreens or Ofoto, depending on the specials at one or the other.

I've been scouting out some Kodak Easyshare digital cameras but can't make up my mind which one to get. The 3 I'm looking at is the LS753, LS743, and the DX7440. The two LS's are pocket-sized and the DX gives you more zoom. I'm just waiting for a good sale or incentive to sway me to one of them. Cheapest prices I have seen are online at www.costco.com (but then they tack on s/h and a "fee" if you're not a Costco member. Would be nice to get a free SD memory card with the purchase too!

Anyone noticed pricing lately on these 3?

When you say more zoom, which type is it? I'm not familiar with those models. The optical zoom is what is important, if you plan on making enlargements. The first digital camera I had had only digital zoom. For a landscape picture it was okay, but for anything with detail, as soon as it was blown up, you saw the blockiness. If they say 16x zoom it might mean 4x optical and 4x digital = 16x total. Anything over the 4x optical could be not as sharp.

Verchad:

DX7440 has 4x optical and 4x digital zooms.

LS753 and LS743 both have 2.8x optical and 3.6x digital zooms.

I am not overly concerned with zoom, but just wanted to mention that the DX model had more total zoom (with a little more optical zoom included).

On second thought...should I be looking for more oomph in the digial zoom department? I see that Kodak also makes a 10x optical zoom. SO MANY CHOICES!! What's your experience with optical zooms, verchad?

I have one Kodak Easyshare with the 10x zoom, the DX6490. I love it BUT it is not pocket sized. Have you tried any of the cameras you are considering? There is a lot to be said for how they feel in the hand.

Kodak Easyshare 7590 which is another 10x zoom just came out in September.

I wouldn't get anything less than 4x zoom...

Hi, jeancbpugh!

Yes, I've gone to Best Buy several times trying out the various Kodak cameras. Especially the 3 I keep harping on LOL. I am not completely sold on the LS ones, they seem rather too small in my hands for my liking. That is one of the reasons I was leaning towards the DX7440.

Funny you should mention the DX7590...I was just looking at those online earlier today. Reviews on cnet.com seem promising, but I just keep flip-flopping back and forth over getting a digital camera that is small (pocketsize) or one that has a larger display, more optical zoom, and more secure in my hands.

Do you find the DX6490 cumbersome?

I don't find it cumbersome, but I always have some bag, either a Vera Bradley backpack or a largish fanny pack, because I have to carry meds for one of my sons. Occasionally if I am just out on my own, I'll just take the camera and hang the strap on my shoulder.

There is a fantastic kodak camera owners forum at dpreview.com. Plenty of regular posters who own all the models you are considering. You might enjoy asking some questions there.

I love this camera. I've only had simple point-and-shoot cameras before, with negligable zoom. The 10x zoom is invaluable in certain situations: my son's soccer games, at the beach to capture the family on various boats, to capture a bird or view or old barn through the car window. Or to take a picture of someone without being obvious about it. Great for candids of shy relatives.

Once you have zoom, you can never go back. :sunny:

Good luck!
